Super User rippin-lips Posted December 30, 2014 Super User Posted December 30, 2014 So I just got my first fishing kayak yesterday. Perception sport caster 12.5. It's pretty well loaded with dang near everything. It has the stock seat though. It's very thin and has no padding. I'm a larger guy at 210 lbs so it's not going to cut it. Any of you heavier people have any input on a good comfy seat? I've seen a few online but they're around $150 + I'd like to get around the $80 mark. Any input on the ascend deluxe seat? It's the stock seat that comes on the FS12T. I got a $50 bps gift card that I can use towards it. It'd only cost me $40 of my money. It has these wings on the side that look like they might get in the way at times though. Thanks for any help. Quote
atcoha Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 I'm about the same weight.... no input on seat selection for perception, BUT, I LOVE the seat in my jackson kayak! It's like sitting in a comfortable lawn chair. I don't think it will adapt....without some cutting and duct tape. Quote

I think it's the stock seat that comes on the FS128T. I got a $50 bps gift card that I can use towards it. It'd only cost me $40 of my money. That would be ideal for me. Thanks You could try adding some cutouts of microcell foam under your seat to add some comfort. That's one of the cheapest methods. Here's an assortment of options from Austin Kayak: http://www.austinkayak.com/search/seating/filters/cHJpY2V8MDs2MjAwOzA7NjIwMCxsYXN0RmlsdGVyfHVuZGVmaW5lZCxzaXRlfDE=/v/500/page/1 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted December 31, 2014 Author Super User Posted December 31, 2014 Yeah I wanted a kayak with an elevated seat and the ability to stand in but with the extras this one had it was hard to pass up. The kayak was free. I just paid for the other stuff basically. Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted December 31, 2014 Super User Posted December 31, 2014 If the Ascend Deluxe seat is the same as the 128T's seat, it's a 4/5. I have one and find the seat great, especially because it swivels. The 128T's swivel base looks easy to change for a upholstered / bass boat style seat. I give it a 4/5 only because tge material it's made of faded more than I liked after only one season. I keep the seat in my shed when not in use. I also own a FeelFree Lure 11.5, whose seat is a 5/5. Good luck modding your kayak seat. Quote

Measure the width and depth of the stock 12T seat then call FeelFree's US office and ask for Dinver. If the width & depth match, they'll sell you a Lure seat, which is all-day comfortable. You'll likely have to mod your own mount/bracket, but FeelFree's seat is great. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted December 31, 2014 Author Super User Posted December 31, 2014 My kayak does not have an elevated seat. The lure 11.5 does. Quote
atcoha Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Free is even better! Good luck with the seat, hope you find something that will work and be comfortable. Quote
MidTNKayakAngler Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I have the Surf to Summit Elite, and Expedition seats for other kayaks, and they are a nice addition, but nothing like having a solid frame seat. Even the seats in the Wilderness Systems Ride break down after a year or two and start to get uncomfortable. I got my Phase 3 Air Pro Max for my Ride 135 in September and it was great. There may be modifications you can do to add a bleacher seat with a frame, but be careful because it will mess with the center of gravity. Quote

That Ascend seat it very comfortable. And there are numerous ways to modify the wing-nuts on the frame to eliminate any interference they might create. Just check out videos regarding the FS12T seat and you will find them. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 2, 2015 Author Super User Posted January 2, 2015 I called Austin Kayak and was emailed a list of seats that would fit. The comfy manta looks like it should do the trick. I just couldn't say no to this deal. The extras alone came to almost $500 when looking them up online. Quote
Kidflex Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Ack has the gone fishing seat which is very comfortable. I'm 200lbs and find this seat nice to fish out of for long hours. The extra tackle storage and rod holders are a nice plus. A lil more than you wanted to spend but if you sign up for their email, you get 15% off your first purchase. If you've already received it, use another email and get a different code. Tyd for around $119 Quote
