Arbesu441 Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 Does any do bass fishing from a kayak in pinellas county florida? Really wanting to go out there and do it. Sick of fishing from the shore all the time and a boat is too expensive right now. Quote
USCG_Anthony Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 hey man i was stationed in st. pete/clearwater for 5 years and never fished like i should have but go to bill jacksons they sell kayaks and talk to some of the guys there. i always had luck at ponds and stuff but like you im not trying to pay a shitload of $$$ for a boat i too am looking to get a fishing kayak. im looking at the native watercraft slayer propel 13. you can peddle forward and reverse. ive seen people fishing at lake seminole from yaks before but check out the kayak bass fishing series online and a few of the events are in florida in january and you can rent a kayak and fish the tourny. good luck man Quote
John G Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 I live in Dunedin and I don't have enough sack to bass fish in fresh water in a kayak because I have too much respect for gators. Now, I am thinking about a 13' or 15'4" Gheenoe with a trolling motor for small water and St. Joseph Sound. Go to youtube and type in alligator vs kayak There is a little bit of bad language so if you are offended, don't watch! 1 Quote
Arbesu441 Posted January 2, 2015 Author Posted January 2, 2015 Anthony were you at the air sta? That's where j am now. But I've been to bill jackson and they are pretty expensive for a yak compared to other places. Quote
USCG_Anthony Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 no i was on the CGC VISE and then made 2nd and went over to STA SAND KEY in clearwater. my room mate used to fish lake tarpon but i had some luck just fishing some ponds and stuff i found around st. pete. you should look and see if they still do the D7 MWR bass tournament. im in a native watercraft FB group and asked about a discount and i had multiple people message me who worked at shops trying to get me in a new one for a good price. gotta remember that fishing in florida i was more popular then up here in VA so they know people are going to buy stuff. I would be very hesisitant in a boat, and i am not talking a jon. 1 Quote
John G Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 I personally think that people are crazy for mixing kayaks and gators. Sure, I know that compared to Nile and Indo Pacific Crocs, that consider you part of the food chain and they will go out of their way to try and get you out of your boat, gators really are mild mannered reptiles but all it takes is one with a bad attitude and then you are lunch. No thanks! Quote
primetime Posted March 6, 2015 Posted March 6, 2015 Alligators are only dangerous if they attack which is like getting hit by lighting...I stay away but I watch kids throw stuff at dinasours that I would never go near, Heck, they rent kayaks on Hillsbourough and Kissimmee, that is gator heaven, Just careful in spring near shoreline. I fish Alligator lake and never have issues, boats are worse than gators. Quote

westcoastcater Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 If you watch the average angler on channel 47, that's his main mode of fishing. He has fished Seminole, Alligator, Walshingham lakes, and I'm sure other local lakes, and I've never seen him have any issues. Quote
