Spro Bronzeye Shad Review

Unimpressed so far.

 

Just tried it out for the first time today, to test out all of the claims that Ive seen regarding the great action, and ease of use.   To see if I can as the package claims, actually "Glide it."

 

I became skeptical of all of this the moment I compared it to a Booyah Pad Crasher, and saw that the body of the two baits were hardly different in size and proportions.  Which tells me, that this thing shouldnt be expected to dance any better than a Pad Crasher.

 

Now granted...this is only the first time...and will be working with it more often in order to find the right groove for it.  But todays test-drive showed it to be a big dud.  It did not glide, and it really did not walk.  After a little bit, began to take on water and sink a little.  At this point, it would sit in the water, nose-down like the Titanic.  

 

BUT....The action was actually a little better while it was sub-surface.

 

Maybe Im doing something wrong.  Will try again.

Agreed, however....that 10lb mono works the Pad Crashers just fine, and Im sure that braid would work them even better.  But, based on this, its my expectation that even 10lb mono ought to produce some partially acceptable level of action out of this particular bait, rather than completely rendering it as a dead turd. 

 

But I will likely be switching over to braid this season, so we shall see if that makes any difference.

Maybe you got a bad one because all of mine have fished great. I've got around 10 so far (only had 5 or so in the water) and they "glide" just fine while being extremely easy to walk. You are correct though about them taking on water, you need to squeeze them about every other cast to keep them working at their full potential. This is my only complaint with these lures.  

 

I'm a big frog fisherman so I spend quite a bit of time with one frog type bait or another on my line and I've found that the shad works better on lower pound test braids. The lowest I've gone so far is 50, my usual frog line is 65, but they perform much better on the 50. I plan to try them with 40 sometime in 2015.

Have had no problem with the bronzeye shad.  Mine walks fine.  Actually caught my biggest frog fish this year on it in mid November at just over 5 1/2lbs.  And as far as frogs that don't sink, I have only found 2, both the Snag Proof Ish's Phat Frog and Poppin Phatty.  Fish all mine on braid (30).  Makes a big difference in being able to get the right action out of a frog.  Found ths Bronzeye needed no altering to walk and had a great hook up percentage.

My favorite frog. Throw on braid. I trim both legs (one leg shorter than the other) to make it walk "tight".

Switch to braid like others have said. I have more confidence in my Bronzeye Shad than any other frog in my box.

PM sent Heron... And for anyone else(if you have the same issue), the Shads are not suppose to take on water, contact Spro and they'll get you squared away. Great company to deal with. When the bait works right its action it killer.

I had similar problems at first, but now I can walk it much better than any other frog I have (Spro, Livetarget, and Pad Crashers). It has become my go to frog. Just keep at it, you will figure it out. And if it changes anything I have been able to walk it better with 50lb power pro.

I bought two and sold both of them ASAP after testing them.  Mine would not walk for crap.

Frogs are much easier to walk with braid. Plus you are only asking for your heart to be broken by using 10lb mono.

UPDATE:   I have since switched to braid, and yes indeed, this thing has come alive now, and I can work it better than my pad crashers.

 

It is.....magnificent.
