travis23 Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 I have some Lucky E Strike ones, but i see there are Lucky Craft ones too. What is the difference/which one is better? Quote
smallieking Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 i use both. biggest difference to me is the price lol. i do believe the lucky craft ones run better and have a more erratic action. but i tend to throw the lucky strike ones more just because they catch fish and are not as expensive. also i dont think luckEstrike makes a 3.5 model like lucky craft does and the lucky craft rc3.5 is a true fish catcher for me in late may and june when the fish start moving out. Super User aavery2 Posted December 28, 2014 Super User Posted December 28, 2014 Are the Lucky Crafts exclusive to Bass Pro? No, they can be purchased at most quality tackle shops. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted December 28, 2014 Super User Posted December 28, 2014 I will tell you the hardware is better on the Lucky craft and the attention to detail in the finishes is much better but when I put good hooks on the Luck-E-Strike RC2 series 3 square bills, I have to tell you that I really like them and the finish has held up fantastically. Now if you ask me who builds the better bait out of the box I'll agree Lucky Craft is much better but if you change out the hooks on the Luck-E-Strike, well they work well and really catch fish, it is hard for me to find fault but I also have gotten bad ones that others have had so my opinion is based on them working perfectly. tnbassfisher Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 I thought that LC ones were discontinued, but I could be wrong. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted December 29, 2014 Super User Posted December 29, 2014 I thought that LC ones were discontinued, but I could be wrong. The LC RC's were discontinued a couple of years ago but Lucky Craft still sells the same baits under a different name. To me, the Lucky Craft RC's (now Lucky Craft LC and RTO) are the sq bills that all others are measured up against. You will be hard pressed to find a better sq bill. 3 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 29, 2014 Global Moderator Posted December 29, 2014 Both are great baits. I wouldn't want to have to choose between one or the other in a "You can only choose one line of squarebills" thread Quote

I had never made that connection. In regards to changing out the hooks on the Luck E Strike lures, are you choosing to put the VMCs on them like Lucky Craft puts on theirs. Quote

Some of the Luck E Strikes come with good hooks and some don't for some reason. I got a Luck E Strike Freak awhile back with nasty sharp hooks that I fished with out of the box with no problems. Most of them seem to have thin, flimsy little hooks that even a decent sized fish will straighten out. Quote

I never have had a hook straighten out or break, never ever... You guys must be horsing these fish around or something... 1 Quote
Super User bigbill Posted December 30, 2014 Super User Posted December 30, 2014 Those rock fish bend hooks faster than the stick fish. Lol 1 Quote

I never have had a hook straighten out or break, never ever... You guys must be horsing these fish around or something... Not at all. Give it time and it will happen to you regardless of what you try to do to prevent it. I lost a fish due to a straightened hook just a couple weeks ago on a jerkbait, even after I'd swapped the hooks out to round bend Gamakatsu trebles. Fishing a 6' 8" M/F Ethos micro guide casting rod (which is a very soft rod if you've never fished one) with a jerkbait on 10lb Big Game (very stretchy=more shock absorbency). It was also still quite a ways out when it happened which cuts down the amount of pressure even more and on top of it all, I was babying it because it was a heavy feeling fish and I had it on a jerkbait. In the end it didn't matter as the only hook I must have had it with straightened out and the fish was gone. I've seen the Strike King 1.5 hooks and the Luck E Strike hooks straightened a bunch of times, very few of them were user error. I've broke plenty of hooks (admittedly I do set the hook hard with jigs and plastics), all the way up to VMC straight shank HD flipping hooks. Fish long enough and it will happen, trust me. Quote
Logan S Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 I dont know what is with alot of guys on this forum and hooks... I never have had a hook straighten out or break, never ever... You guys must be horsing these fish around or something... It will happen. The hooks really don't get damaged when fighting a fish unless I hook a big pike/snakehead/catfish/striper/etc... Most of the time they are actually bent/broken from removing them with pliers from a fish repeatedly or from a fish shaking in the net/boat after being caught (especially smallies ). Any treble hook will get damaged after a while so I just keep a stock of trebles in the boat and replace as needed. I don't ever worry about it too much because I know it will happen and I'm prepared to replace them. As for the RC's, Lucky Craft made the RC line for BPS with Rick Clunn as the 'designer'...That's why they were called RC, also why they changed to LC/RTO or whatever they are now when he left for Luck-E-Strike. The reason the LES and Lucky Craft look the same is because Clunn is the guy originally behind both . Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 When actually holding both cranks their differences become very evident. They aren't that close in design actually, action either for that matter. Both work though and I've been impressed with the Luck E Strike's. I agree with the guy above that said the RC 1.5 is the bait that all other squarebills are judged against, it's just that good. I think other companies have produced some really good squarebills though, KVD 1.5 being one example. Quote
