I fish Nocamixon all the time and I see guys out with the 16' trackers and the Lowe skorpion buzzing around the lake all the time.  These are set up with merc. 4 stroke 20's  and 2 guys with tournament gear.  Good luck.

I'm looking hard at a 2015 Tracker Pro 160. Can't decide on a 20 or 40 HP. Do these come with Power tilt? What about Power trim? Is power trim and tilt worth it on a small bass boat like this?

From the research that I've been doing, you can get really any motor with the options of power tilt/trim.  I think the option of power tilt/trim will help with getting onto plane quicker and can also help improve your top end speed by a few mph.

Even the little 20 is a heavy beast.  If you can spring for PT get it!!!!

I have a 2014 170 with 20hp my top speed with me is a little over 20mph. And for those wishing to add another trolling battery you can fit 2 group 27s with the cranking battery in the compartment. You have to get a dual 27 battery tray and turn the batteries the other way. I just added one and all 3 fit in. Its tight but works great.

I have a 2014 170 with 20hp my top speed with me is a little over 20mph. And for those wishing to add another trolling battery you can fit 2 group 27s with the cranking battery in the compartment. You have to get a dual 27 battery tray and turn the batteries the other way. I just added one and all 3 fit in. Its tight but works great.

Is your 20hp a 4stroke or 2? Stock prop, or did you upgrade?

Its a 4 stroke and stock prop....i may upgrade this year to a stainless steel to see if it makes a difference. I will have gps this year so see what that says speed is. I consistently get a little over 20 with the tach

If you deck a Jon start with a brand new one. My first boat was a decked 14' 1979 terry. Needed a new transom the day I bought it for $500. Yeah i only had $2500 total in it when I was done but A LOT of work is an understatement.

Something to consider is the Smokercraft 171 pro bass boat. I have one and it is pretty similar to the bass pro boat . One big difference between the two is the Smokercraft has two batteries up front for the trolling motor. Going to 24v is basic. I have the 12v right now and can not wait to replace it. In any heavy Florida weeds the 12v comes to a dead stop. I was on Okeechobee last week with a guide who had a 36v and that thing cut through the toughest weeds like butter. I use my trolling motor all day so not stalling in weeds is a big plus.

I also have a 170..I bought mine new in 2006 with a 4 stroke 25hp Merc on it. The only trouble I have had with the boat have been self-inflicted issue cause by my stupidity. I fish the smaller finger lakes and it's just fine. I go 22 MPH by myself loaded with gear, and 16-18 with a second guy in the boat. The only time I am painfully slow is with two people, more than 1/2 a tank of fuel, and a full livewell, then I'm down to 12 MPH or so, but it's not big deal to me, because the longest lake I fish is 8 miles long. It's got plenty of storage for everything I need, infact I probably carry too much. Mine has the center rod locker ( I think the new ones are on the side) and I can fit 7'6" rods in it no problem. I upgraded the 12v TM to a 24v, there is room for both TM batteries if you down size to group 24 size, I was worried about it not having enough juice with the smaller batts. but it's been a non-issue, in fact I can fish two day or more with out killing it............but I do charge after every trip, I just forgot one day and found out that I was worried for nothing.

 

So I've been doing a little more research.  Since your boat is an '06, I'm assuming it is the Pro Team 170 TX?  I'm asking because I found a bunch of 170 TX's for sale, but in all of the pictures I'm seeing, the hull looks really different compared to the new 170.  The newer hull looks a bit flatter.  I can't find any info online about the deadrise of the  older model.  I know the new one is 6 degrees.

Any input would be helpful!

Thanks for the suggestion.  It looks like this boat is a fat girl though.  I doubt a 20hp will move it well at all.

I have a 2013 Pro 165 with a 40 HP EFI. With my buddy and I loaded with fuel and grear it will do about 35 on glass water. I also fish Penn Warner and it does well there but you could not tournament fish from this boat because of the livewell. I would recommend a larger trolling motor.

Initially, I was concerned about the standard 12V 45lb. bow mount Edge trolling motor, and figured I'd want to upgrade right away.  I've found I don't have any pressing need to upgrade.  And that's a good thing, because the one thing that bugs me a little about the boat is that there is not room in the aft fuel tank/battery compartment to add another battery if I wanted a 24V trolling motor.  It's actually a bit tricky to get the starting and trolling motor batteries in and out of the compartment.

 

I'm a big guy (240 lbs), and I usually fish alone.  I have a lot of gear stored in the boat.  It pops up on plane fairly quickly and has a top speed of about 35 MPH (new Merc. Spitfire prop).  The boat has very mild deadrise and plenty of beam, so it's very stable.  It doesn't have any handling quirks that I've found so far.  

 

The live well set-up isn't the greatest but I rarely use it, so it's not an issue for me.  It would be easy to upgrade, though.  There is plenty of storage, even for long one-piece rods.  

 

I can't think of what else to add... let me know if you have any specific questions and I'd be glad to try to help you.

Hey desmobob, I have the same set up as you, but I have the factory prop on my 40 hp merc and it takes forever it seems like to get on plane with another guy on the boat. I am looking at the spitfire props but cant decide on what pitch to go with. What did you go with? Pitch and Diameter?

I have both the 10.3x13 and the 10.1x14 Spitfires.  The optimum for my boat rigged and loaded as it is would be something right about in the middle of these two props.  If I know I'm going to have a couple of people out with me, I put on the 10.3x13.  Alone, the 10.1x14 works well.  It sounds like you might want to try the 10.3x13 on your boat....
