Bladed Jig Trailer

I've had several guys contact me asking about what I mean when I talk about rigging my Rage Menace or Pit Boss vertically for a bladed jig trailer. I thought I'd save some time explaining it and just rig one up and take a couple pictures instead . I cut the bait down a little (to the first rib on a Pit Boss), and that should be about perfect.

I will certainly give this a try, but I have had great success with horizontal rigging.

The bait moves side to side, the trailer moves side to side, a fishes tail moves side to side    It allows the baits to work together instead of against each other. The bladed jig wants to swing side to side, while the appendages on the Pit Boss want to move up and down from the wider portion of the bait. If you rig the Pit Boss/Menace the other way, the movement of the jig causes the legs to cross over and lose some of their action, while the resistance to the trailer deadens the action of the jig. All probably very slight differences, but that's what works for me and my reasoning for why I do it

Both ways have a time and a place. 90% of the time, I got it on horizontally, however, a vertical rigging will give a quicker fall, and also a bit more of a fishy profile.

Edit: I'll speak only for me; It used to be If I found something I liked I tended to stay In that box without ever, or rarely, went outside what I knew. As I've gotten older and fish more by myself or with my wife I have tried many, many, types of presentations. It was fun to simply try. The point being this: If you want to try something outside the norm the only thing that can be lost Is time. It's worth It. Also, NEVER stop learning and be open to presentations, rigging, retrieves, etc., that may be considered outside the norm.

Looks great, gives a nice fish looking profile and I bet it casts a mile, I have been using zoom swimming chunks as my trailers but when looking for bigger fish may use your vertical method!

Couldn't keep up with fish at lake of the ozarks with his "kicker shad" color with a lake fork jointed swim fluke in gizzard shad!
