Spooling With Fluorocarbon

Hey y'all I got some 20 lb seagar fluorocarbon for Christmas and im wanting to spool it on my reel but ive seen some mixed opinions in the forums about fluorocarbon. can u please help me and tell me what u think. the pros and cons of fluorocarbon?

I used invizx last year in 15 lb and 17lb.

And no complaints with it at all.To me it had great knot strength, and abrasion resistance. Was my first time trying an expensive fluoro And hope i didnt spoil myself. I want to try the red label because it is a little cheaper.

Don't do it unless it's leader material. Red label used to break on the spool. Invizx is night and day once I used it.

I had the exact opposite experience. Invizx is nice, but I tried red label in a pinch and didn't see any noticeable difference. Especially for half the price... I've used it exclusively for the last 2 years and NEVER have any problems.

I was planning on spooling it as main line. should I not do that?

Well, it is not very expensive and it has been recommended by guys that fish it on a regular basis.

I used Red Label for the first time earlier in December.  I went to BPS the Monday after thanksgiving and it was the only Seaguar they had on the shelf in 17lb.  which is what I use in Mexico.  I used it for 4 1/2 days without a breakoff in Mexico with bass up to 9.18lbs.  Abrasion was comparable to Invisx(which is what I normally use), but the stiffness is much more noticeable.  I was able to contain it with KVD L&L for use for 4.5 days, but I think if it sat on my reel all week, and then I had to use it again, it might be a nightmare.  I will stick to Invisx, but know that the Red Label will work in a pinch,

I still may try the red label but picked up a few spools from 12lb to 20lb of invizx while they have the sale going on

I have red label inmost of my reels as main line. I don't see a great amount of difference in it and some of the more expensive line. I do treat it with kvd line and lure. I've been going with it for 2 seasons now and have had absolutely no problems.

Maybe it was a bad spool? I sent them 3 emails about the problem and they didn't even have the courtesy to return one...I don't even know why I bought Invizx after that lousy customer service, but the line has been good, definitely more limp than red label.

I have tried the 12lb Red Label and it is pretty good line.  It is stiffer than Invizx but not bad.  I would recommend using the KVD line conditioner.  It helped some.  With 20lb though, it might be quite stiff.   You might put a little bit of backing on the spool (not sure if this will help but it has become standard procedure for me)

 

What bait caster are you putting it on?

Usually 10-14 lb mono and I want to use the FC for cranking, jigging, and maybe with the senko since it is sinking line.

I just don't know if I would use 20#. If that's what you got, go for it. Don't spend extra money on a new spool you don't need and let a good spool go to waste. I would not hesitate to use 20# as a flipping line though. Very good abrasion resistance.
