Freak78 Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Hello everybody! Been lurking around here for awhile and decided to finally become a member. I currently live in the shenandoah valley but grew up in Nova. The fishing there spoiled me with the varying waterways and seemingly endless places to fish. Here its crystal clear, shallow, and highly pressured.Funny thing is I ignorantly thought the fishing would be better here lol. Looking to maybe gain a fishing partner or 2 and share some spots. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask! Quote
Super User Darren. Posted December 26, 2014 Super User Posted December 26, 2014 Welcome aboard, Freak! That just doesn't sound very nice, but hey, there it is! Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 27, 2014 Super User Posted December 27, 2014 Ok Freak, you asked for questions and here we go: 1. Do you miss Northern Virginia traffic? 2. Do you like I-81 with all of its truck traffic? 3. Do you like I-81 with all of the state police and local deputies?4. Do you think you will like the power going off for days when we have a big snow/ice storm? 5. Do you like driving in the snow and ice on hills and valleys? 6. Do you like smallmouth fishing in local rivers? 7. Are you a Virginia fan? 8. Are you a JMU fan? 9. Are you a Bridgewater fan? 10. Can you stand people who are not die heart Deadskins fans? 11. Have you gotten behind a 900 year old lady in a Buick on the two lane highway going 40 MPH and can't pass? 12. What are you going to do when you realize that the wonderful people in the Valley don't give a hoot about what happens in DC? Welcome to the Shenandoah Valley and to the Forum. Great having you with us and we have lots of Virginia guys and gals so ask your questions and we will do all we can to help you with our input. Happy New Year! 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted December 27, 2014 Super User Posted December 27, 2014 you are in a great spot for fishing....just stop looking for the places like you used to fish in NOVA, they aren't the same in the valley but they are equally as good if not better and much more diverse. Quote

Freak78 Posted December 27, 2014 Author Posted December 27, 2014 Thanks for the greetings and welcomes guys! And Sam I don't think I have ever been asked that many questions on a forum. I usually avoid them because they attract lowlifes of the internet but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Liking what I'm seeing so far! 1.In some sick way I think I do. Some stretches of 81,66, and 64 are just outright boring. 2. I have already been pulled over twice here by the state police. In Nova traffic routinely went 10-15 mph over the limit, and right by cops. Here? Not so much 3. I don't mind the truck traffic as I usually pass and leave them, which leads to me being pulled over. 4. I was here visiting my wife during and after the windstorm a few years back. Power was out for a week here! It doesn't take much to kick it off for an hour or so either. 5.If I have to drive in it I don't mind it. Maybe I would feel differently if I lived in Staunton. Nothing but steep hills! 6. My uncle used to own land on the Shenandoah. We used to slay smallies there. I was excited to catch them again after the move but have only caught maybe 5 small ones. Nothing but largemouth so far. 7.8.And 9. Negative. I am a die hard VT fan. I literally live right in between JMU and bridgewater tho. 10. I cannot stand any skins fan lol. EAGLES!! 11. I have. And behind Mennonites. Depending on my mood or schedule they are both equally annoying. 12. There are people here who think Nova/DC is a gangland, while the others think there is little to no difference between here and there. I doubt I will ever figure this place or these people out lol! Flyfisher, I have abandoned that thinking. It became clear to me when half of my tackle became obsolete when I seen how shallow some of these places are lol. I can catch quantity, but the quality has been eluding me so far. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 27, 2014 Super User Posted December 27, 2014 As the old state police saying goes, "5 you're fine; 10 you're mine." On I-81 it is a little different as the tolerance is much less than 10. Be careful and download WAZE to your cell phone. If you can get Pro Clip you can attach the cell phone to your vent outlet and have a nice view of the phone and what is ahead. WAZE is free so download it and check it out. Happy New Year! Quote
