St. Croix Mojo Bass Power Spinning Rod

Merry Christmas BR friends. Looking to get the 7'0 St. Croix Mojo Bass power spinning rod. I have a tough time deciding the best reel and would not only appreciate some suggestions but also some help in learning the best way to determine how to pair rods and reels. Thanks!

I'd get like a 30 or 2500 sized reel and what do you plan on fishing with it? I'd put like 20 pound braid with varying leader sizes.

What techniques? Shaky head, Wacky rigging? As for suggestions I'm a fan of the Lews spinning reels. 200 or 300 would be ideal, I'd probably go for the 200. There are multiple models, the $40 one is bang for your buck. Good smooth drag and a 10 bearing system.

I like to use senkos so yes to wacky as well Texas and Carolina rigging. Occasional shaky.

Then I might go for the 300 size. Line wise, 20 or maybe even 30 pound braid with fluro/mono leaders.

A Shimano Sonora or Sedona 2500 would be perfect for that rod.  Pflueger President in the 25 size is also popular.  If you want a bit higher end and want to do some searching the previous generation Shimano Saros is awesome as are the Daiwa Advantage and Tierra Spinning reels (2000 size) can all be bought used for $60-85).  I've owned a ton of spinning reels (all that I have mentioned and more).  The Sonora is my favorite for $ to performance.  The only meh part is the purple rod with an orange reel unless you're a Pheonix Suns fan.

First off, what's your allocation for this reel?

Secondly, high bearing counts don't equal good, great or supreme quality. For that rod, and length, a aluminum frame, as in a heavier reel will help with the balance point.. In other words, a Shimano Ci4+ @ $240 will not be a good choice, not on that rod... I'm not saying that rod is a bad rod, just heavier and somewhat unbalanced..

On the reel, it's really boils down to money first and foremost.. If you know, about what you want to spend, then more exact models could be given.

those rods aren't heavy at all. Have you ever fished one?

I've used several mojos and other St Croix models. If it were me and I had $100 for a reel and a mojo... I would get the 6'8" Medium X-fast model with Shimano Sahara (previous model) off eBay and have enough $ for a spool of Sunrise SX braid. There is something special about the 6'8" MXF St. Croixs

They are heavy compared to the Veritas, Lamiglas Excel 2, ***, BPS Carbonlite,

i have used shimano 2500s abus and presidentials and they are all good in my opinion but for the money the presidentials have been my favorite reel for the money. they are smooth and after two years they feel just the way they did when i took them out of the box and i can only say that about this reel and the shimanos and they are 59 to 69 bucks and i have 4 now thats what my opinion is. it has stood the test of time, big fish, little fish, hundreds of fish, small mouth, large mouth, flat heads, walleye.

i use it to texas rig, shaky head, small spooks, poppers, and i have had braid mono and it doesnt matter seems to work. all you need to do is go try some of these reels at the store and feel whats best for you. and find what size spools that are going to work best for what your going to use it for. i would suggest the larger spools for texas or a all around like the 2500 size. hope this helps and i dont think you can go wrong with either 2 and for your price range.
