CAbasser Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 any of you guys own any or used one ? Quote
Trace Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I had one but sold it. It was a decent reel. I'm not sure exactly what it was about it now, but i preferred the regular speed spool over the carbon fire. If you have a decent deal on one i wouldn't hesitate scooping one up. Quote
tater555 Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 I have one and after two or three months it got really "geary". My buddy in the back of the boat could hear me reeling. I tried taking it apart and thoroughly cleaning it but it never went away. I even paid to get it professionally cleaned and it didn't help. It would cast just fine and all, but that noise just aggravated the heck out of me. I bought a lazer speed spool after the carbon fire, and have not had any problems with it after a year. Quote

Did you not like the frame? The carbon fire is a graphite frame/ vs regular speed spool is aluminum. The regular speed spool also has a few more bearings. I really like my speed spools. I currently have a tournament (5.4:1), 2 original speed spools (6.4:1), and two laser mg speed spools (5.4:1 and 6.4:1) and have not had any problems after 2 years of use with my oldest one. Quote
Trace Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 It could have been the graphite frame. I honestly can't remember what it was. I guess it had some small flaw with me, so i sold it to a friend. i used it for froggin and it worked when i needed it to. I'm not too familiar with the laser mg but they must be similar reels ? Both at the $80 price point 1 Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted December 24, 2014 Super User Posted December 24, 2014 They have one more bearing. Both are graphite. This doesn't bother me, but I like the aluminum better. The reason I bought them is I got them for $40 each. One for crankin and one for swim jigs/spinnerbaits. Quote
Trace Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 For 40 bucks it would be hard to beat i think Quote

The main gear or pinion gear was beat and needed replaced. I don't think it is that great a reel anyways. It is the red reel and they sell them at DSG? That's the only place I ever seen that reel before. I asked to look at one because I had never seen it and couldn't get the side plate off. The guy behind the counter gave me crap about opening it up to look at it. He kept telling me that it didn't come off and please stop before I break it... Quote
Trace Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 I didn't have any issues taking the side plate off from the one i had. Got it at dsg. Quote
