Bank Fishing Stand Or Take A Chair

I'm curious if any on you pack a seat and what kind it is

How are you gonna walk around and fish on the move if you have a chair.  Chairs are fine for bait fshing and the sit and wait for catfish and trout, but bass fishing.....not so much.

I move too much to sit and fish. I don't even sit when I'm in the boat unless I'm running the gas motor. Just one more thing to have to carry too.

That depends on how easy the bank is to walk, fishing lures or bait and most important ones physical condition.  I walk quite a bit everyday fishing.  I've got places on the beach where it's a mile or better just to get to the fishing spot, fishing as I walk.  The canals and ponds are pretty easy to walk here, always on the move while fishing them.

I'm a serious fisherman and many times I longed for a chair. Maybe not to sit in the entire time but at intervals.  Come to find out I have ADS and standing is the most painful position I can be in.  Blood doesnt flow back up my legs toward my heart.  Anyway, theres nothing wrong, amateur, "bucket brigade", Aunt Jemima or anything else about using a chair.  I use a 5 gal. bucket with a Plano bucket insert or 2 and a cushion lid.  I'm not always sitting, not even 50% of the time but there are times I need to and I'm still a very serious fisherman.  A lot of you guys need to develop a mentality that the bank beaters, minnow dunkers are no different than you.  One day when PETA has taken your guns and made hunting illegal, fishing will be there next target and we will need all the allies we can get.

I walk alot when I bank fish. I cover alot of water, if the urge to sit down enters my mind its time to go home. Now if a person is live bait fishing with worms and such then I could see how a chair will be helpful. I see it all the time.

Never take a chair. Just dress comfortable and stay on the move. Get a good shoulder bag and pack light.

I am a run and gunner from the bank, I like to pick off the active fish and cover a ton of water. So no, I don't use a chair. I dislike sitting while fishing in general, because it makes me lazy.

If you want to sit down while you fish, no one will tattle on you except yourself.  It isn't a bad idea.  When I was a bank fisherman, I didn't think much of having to sit down on the ground and get wet, but I did often.  Here are a few suggestions.   Back in the day when I went to a lot of outdoor concerts, I had a pair of concert lawn chairs.  These were pretty light, and set lower to the ground than regular lawn chairs.  I had a velcro rig to keep them folded up and strapped together, all on a sling.  Whole thing weighed 5 lbs total.  A great tool to keep your butt off the ground.  Mayber a little bulky for what you're looking for..   I've seen some folding butt rests at golf stores.  Just a post with a spike on one end and a fold out butt rest on the other.  Fits in a golf bag.   That would just be a little heavier than carrying another rod.  Another option would be to bring along a girl friend when you go bank fishing.  She could pack the lawn chairs and a lunch, providing both nutrition and entertainment when you decided to take a break from bank fishing.

 

The best option, IMO, mentioned earlier, would be a lidded 5 gallon bucket.  Keep all your gear in the bucket and just tote it around, sit on it when you need to.   If it is a pond that you fish at a lot, go to a lawn sale and score a half a dozen lawn chairs and scatter them around the pond, near the stations where you are likely to be fishing.  You might want to put a "PLEASE DON'T STEAL ME"  sign on each lawn chair.  There is a good sociological experiment right there, put out a chair with a "don't steal me" sign on it and see how long it lasts.

2 herniated disc (L4-L5) in lower back along with torn ligaments that connect vertebra causes severe sciatic leg pain. So yea I'll sit even if it's for 4-5 minutes!

Sometimes I bring a folding canvas chair. It fits in a bag I can swing over my shoulder and has a cup holder. It's nice take take a seat once and awhile.

I'm like most everyone else, preferring to not sit when bank fishing.  However, wouldn't one of those golf spectator seats work in this situation? http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/351253025669?lpid=82  It might make you carry one less rod, but would give you something to lean against while casting.  Just don't lean on it too hard when setting the hook, you would probably flip over

When specifically targeting bass, I stand, unless I'm fan casting an area

from the dock. Sitting is fine if you have an open area to fish.

Let me make one thing clear, I have nothing against a person sitting especially if it's for health reasons.  Would rather you sit and enjoy your time then end up in the ER.  With that said, honestly if I saw an older gentleman trying to carry all his stuff and a chair I would honestly help.  I do see most people that do carry a lot of equipment and their chair to fish from the bank have their little carry cart they load up with all their goodies, rod tubes to hold them and everything organized. Even working on the boats, I felt the older gentlemen figured something out quicker then us younger ones.......less work is much easier.  They would have all their stuff organized and loaded on a little metal cart while we lugged our rods and our 40lbs of tackle along with a duffle bag(if it was an overnight trip) tryng hard not to drop anything while they simply just wheeled their little cart down with one hand.

This is simple, take a chair, bucket, or a dang lazy boy recliner if you want to.. It's your trip... Who cares what anyone else thinks... Good health, poor health, doesn't matter.. Only you and how you want to enjoy the fishing time that you have..

A folding chair with strap, backpack and three rods. That's what I bring to the bank every time I fish. I do not fish from the chair, but it comes in handy when changing out lures and giving the old back a break. I can cover twice as much water in less time and still have a free hand. Try doing that with a bucket or cooler.
