Kyle46N Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I'm replacing a few spinning reels this Christmas, and I've narrowed it down to these two brands. They both have the 6:1 higher speed, but I would love to hear from any of you that have used one of the two, or both. Both would be awesome. Or even what you've heard through the grapevine. I've pretty much switched to Lews on the baitcast side, mostly Tournament Pro's, which I love, but not sure of the same quality in the spinning reels. Thanks! Quote
BobP Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I have a Lew's Tournament Speed Spin that I had to send back upon receipt to fix a problem with the bail function - no problem after they adjusted/replaced it. Never had that problem with a Shimano but have had a Sedona bind up when water soaked during river fishing. To me, the Shimano spinning reels seem more user-friendly. I'm a Shimano baitcaster fan but have had better luck with Daiwa spinning reels in the past. None of this addresses current models from any manufacturer - you just have to take your chances! Quote
ThatZX14Fella Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 You said you are replacing a few spinning reels, why not buy both and see which you like better? Quote
timsford Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I have 2 of the tournament high speed lews reels and a team gold carbon, all in the 300 size. The tournament reels are lightweight for their size, have a smooth strong drag, and great line management. I havent had a wind knot yet and they have handled every fish ive hooked, even hard running stripers and wipers. I highly reccomend them. If you have the extra cash id recommend the team reel as its a little lighter and smoother, but both are excellent reels. I cant comment on the shimanos, ive only owned a couple and didnt care for the new ones whem i tried my friends. I switched from daiwa to lews in spinning reels and like my team gold better than any daiwa i tried i that price range Quote
