jesse1378 Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 what i am trying to figure out is if there is this.... i have a 1/4 inch drill bit and i drill 1" into the bait and fill with lead, what does it weigh? it there a chart or something that shows for whatever size drill bit a certain depth with that bit will weigh a certain amount. i have made several cranks and swimbaits and they have all failed and i am running out of bullet weights. i want to drill a hole and fill with lead. if not i guess i could make a mold and then just make the lead 1/4" and then cut in different lengths. any suggestions on material to make that mold out of? jesse1378 Posted December 22, 2014 Author Posted December 22, 2014 ok well i found a way to get an answer... first go here: http://www.matweb.com/tools/weightcalculator.aspx you can use the diameter of your drill bit and the depth you think to get the answer in grams. then go here: http://www.metric-conversions.org/weight/grams-to-ounces.htm put in your grams. and it will convert to ounces. so now you can use bullet weights and rubber bands to get how much you need and then take that weight and drill the holes to depth and have the right size. i guess i answered my own question. maybe this will help others as well. wnybassman Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I did all those calculations a couple years ago when my son and I were building his pinewood derby car, and we (I) poured lead into it to get it up to weight. lol Quote
plumworm Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 You can buy a cheap postal scale for about $7-8 bucks at an office supply store. No formula needed. I think they go up to 30z. Quote
