Best Jig/texas Rig Combo For Under $100

I have been looking at the Abu Garcia Promax 7' MH 

Specs:

Rod Power & Length: MH 7'0"

Under $100 is tricky. Tackle Warehouse has Diawa T rods on sale for $40. Good rod for the money.

If you live by any Dick's Sporting Goods stores I would go in to see if they have any Shimano Crucial rods. They should be on clearance for $42. You can find a reel for $60ish like the Daiwa Lexa through some online retailers.

This would blow the Promax combo out of the water.

Look around at Academy.  You can get a nice rod for $60 (one of their H20 Ethos Rods IM-8) and one of their house reels for probably $50.  Put you right in your price range or $10 above.  The reel you have listed will work, but the rod could be better for sure.

Not a fan of combo rods. The reels are fine, but the rods are not generally very good. That reel is good, but I'm not a fan of the knobs, this is a personal preference. I would look into Berkley rods. They are a great value. The used market is good too

The combo is good. You can get a 7:1 reel with dual braking and a 7' MH/F rod. I used to have one before I thought I needed a $350 setup to catch fish. Spend the rest of the money on line and lures to use with it.

Looks like the old "Pro Qualifier Combo" rod that they slapped some paint on. I think you would be better off going to academy like gulfcaptain stated and put together a combo with their house brand stuff. Their rods are very good quality and I've heard good things about their reels. They also have some of their exclusive lew's reels on sale right now that would probably serve you well.

I would probably buy one of those Lew's and stick it on an All Star Rod.... Some people don't think they are quality rods anymore, but for the price they are still great rods. You can get a good deal on one at Academy I'm sure.

When you say house brand what kinds are you talking about? I am about an hour away from Academy so unfortunately I can't just go and look or I would.

House brands are, well, in-store brands. For example, Academy sells stuff calledal H20. Bass Pro is Bass Pro, Redhead, etc.

I have a H2O combo (Mettle/Ethos micro guide) combo that I bought both the rod and reel on sale and got out for right at $100 with tax (reel was $29.99, regularly $59.99. Rod was $59.99, regularly $79.99). I've been thoroughly impressed with both and would suggest looking into them even at full price. One thing I would say is if you do look at the Ethos rods for a jig/trig rod, go with a 7' H/F instead of MH/F, they seem to run a little light powered IMO.

What's the deal with the micro guides? Are there any added benefits of having them instead of regular sized guides?

They're lighter and since there's more of them and they're closer together it prevents your line from slapping on the rod and flowing smoothly through the guides, which is supposed to increase accuracy at the very least and possibly distance. I know I can cast a jerkbait a long ways with my micro guide Ethos, and it barely feels like there's a rod in my hand it's so light.

Makes sense. I will definitely look into those rod/reels. When I move to Fort Worth here soon I will be living across the street from an Academy. My wife is going to hate it!!!

I think she would have a nervous breakdown if we lived next to that much temptation. She is lucky BPS is about an hour away from where we will be living. She already thinks the $79 Black-max vengeance combo I have is "enough for everything", she is in for a RUDE awakening over the next few decades haha.

We lice 2 hours from a BPS. Doesn't keep us from spending plenty of cash there.

IMO the biggest bank for your buck would be some higher quality second hand tackle. Although, the Academy house brand gets love from a number of good anglers, I can't speak directly to them as they aren't in my area.

100 bucks for a good quality combo is tough. For this one, I wouldn't get my heart set on any specific rod or reel brand. Find the sales or a used set up.

As far as what, look for a 6'6"-7' mh/ fast
