Super User HoosierHawgs Posted December 21, 2014 Super User Posted December 21, 2014 I had a thread about this below. AJ posted some articles that are a good starting point. There are some other good points others have made. * have some really good videos on throwing swimbaits that I have been watching, they make some good points as well. Quote

Super User deep Posted December 21, 2014 Super User Posted December 21, 2014 Okuma Guide Select XH, Shimano Cardiff 400/401, 25# Big Game or 30# Pline PF. Good luck. 2 Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted December 21, 2014 Super User Posted December 21, 2014 I started with a Cardiff 300 spooled with 40lb braid and 25lb CXX topshot for the reel and not wanting to spend a huge amount of money on something I was new to purchased a BPS Graphite IM6 7'6"H Musky rod. Use this combo quite often for most of my swimbaits. Only difference now is I have another one but with a Lexa 300 on it. This way I can fish both soft swimbaits as well as having a hard floating swimbait tied on as well. The Cardiff 300 and BPS rod will run you somewhere in the $170 area and cover everything from 2oz to 8oz without any issues. ' Quote
Jtrout Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Just started getting into them got a 7'6" Jupiter gonna put a Cardiff on it with 50 lb power pro Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 22, 2014 Global Moderator Posted December 22, 2014 dang well I don't wanna do that what line would be best There's plenty of guys that use braid and prefer it, just offering that caution if you do go with braid. Personally, I prefer 20-25 pound copolymer. Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 22, 2014 Super User Posted December 22, 2014 I am also a fan of the Oluma Giude swimbait rod, 7'11" heavy and Shimano Cardiff 300 series reel for swimbait 1-5 oz. Sunline 25 # Defier Nylon line, 1 spool fills the Cardiff 300 and is close to your budget. Tom 1 Quote

Tom I hope that line is as good as I've heard, a spool of it should be in a box waiting for me when I get off work in a couple hours Quote

When Sunline decides to make 30# it would better for 6-8 oz swimbaits.Tom Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 22, 2014 Super User Posted December 22, 2014 The Daiwa DX swimbait rod looks good, 8' heavy, at TW is $109. Don't have any experience with this rod, it has cork handle and fore grip that I prefer in a swimbait rod, should good at that price point. Tom Quote
