Finally get some smart people who are in charge in town. My reservoir has been sold to my town. They just opened it up for fishing. I been in the parking lot checking the dock they installed to fish from. I has handicapped parking near the water. I have great access to the shoreline from the car. Now the best thing ever LURES ONLY sign.

I think it's because of the foam worm containers that are left behind empty. I have one lake were there are more empty worm containers than rocks on the shore. I do feel sorry for the little kids because they can't use night crawlers. Bill

I can put my rod and tackle box on my cub tractor and fish there.

Someone will complain that lures only is discriminatory against those who can't afford lures. Enjoy it while it lasts.

At least you can now fish there with lures. It's better to light one candle than cuss the dark.

Any otters, minks or snakefish cruising.  :)      Almost forgot about the freshwater Bull Shark.

Do not EAT any fish until the town has a water test done for toxins & poisions.at different locations.   No bull. It happens enough times to people.

Hope it is clean enough to enjoy.  :)

Next thing you know they'll ban soft plastics......

Or, like the local reservoir where I live, you can't use gasoline engines or fish from the bank.??

Drinking water reservoirs SHOULD NOT ALLOW any chemicals into the water. It cost a ton of money to remove oils from filters & pumping at water treatment plants.

Row or sail around.

Power plant has that requirement on the pond it owns.  Got tired of cleaning their cooling systems from the motor boats.

Lures only is unconstitutional.

When are they going to take lures out of government?

We have a lure  celebration ever December with the sales and that is unconstitutional We need a live worm celebration.

Next to the lure only sign we need a no worm sign to balance the message and make it fair.

We need to march in the streets yelling for worms.  Worms are good. Worms are good. Worms are good.

Where are the TV reporters and cameras? Why has 60 Minutes or Meet the Depressed stepped up and had interviews with different worms and worm farmers?

Where are the city leaders on this topic?

Where is the US government's Department of Justice when the worms need them?

As Slonezp stated above, "Someone will complain that lures only is discriminatory against those who can't afford lures. Enjoy it while it lasts."

This is a horrible situation for the worms and we need a congressional study completed.

Funny post above. Local reservoirs can definitely be a jackpot. The one by me is 10 acres, so I can cover the whole thing in one trip, rarely anyone else fishes it, and access from the bank is very good if you are willing to hike through some grass, cat tails, and a little bit of mud. We've regularly been catching 5 and 6 pounders. Dad even caught one that was 7#, then it hurried a hook in his hand....

Hook remover and fishing gloves were the first things on his Christmas list...

Down around my area they have a lake that is in San Diego.  It's open 6months, only 3 or 4 days a week.  Have to buy tickets on ticketmaster as only a select number of anglers are alowed on the lake.  All lures are to be barbless.  Can't bring your own boat but can fish out of one of the ones they have on hand (you are allowed to bring your own trolling motor.  Probably one of the best fisheries in S. Cal and there are NO florida strain fish in there......Lake Barrett has worked out all these issues and thrives as a fishery with no problems (unless you can't get a ticket to fish the days you want cause they are sold out).

I have CRUSHED   VERY FLAT  all barbs on every hook  & lure I have.   Why ?  Simple. There is NO   NO   friggin reason to rip flesh & skin out. Worse cut a  nerve in the hand or on a face.  I had 5 of 9 hooks of a big Rapala lure buried in my left palm while removing the lure from a BIG Tiger Muskie.  Crushed the fish with my knees then pulled each hook out with my pliers.  VERY VERY PAINFULL.  I was in shakey woozy shock by the time I pulled the last big treble hook & barb out.

The flesh tears easily........I found out The  skin is tough. Had a hell of a time ripping the hole in the skin largere & larger to back the barb out.  5 X

Crushed barbs now. If the barb brakes off & is jagged ?  YEP  I file & grind it smooth for a simple slide out every time for anyone.  NO PAIN

Dump the barbs...........We do catch & release.  Or 1 fish for a meal. Compared to blood poisioning & painfull infections.

At 77.  I did all the combinations with all hooks  everywhere Crotch Ass face neck forehead . other person. they got me..  Done it

NO FRIGGIN BARBS

MOST IMPORTANT !!............Wear safety rated  glasses & or sunglasses.  Only1 eyeball to a barbed hook

Thanks for the advice! Will definitely be taking precautions in the future. Luckily he did not tear any of the muscles or nerves up in his hand. He did have to get a tetnes shot.

Barrett Reservoir, my favorite place to fish by far! It's actually only open 5 months a year (May-September) and only open three days a week (Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday), but is well worth the hoops you have to jump through to get on the water! Its is $100 a ticketmaster ticket (with fees) and $20 a permit per person at the lake limit 4 anglers per reservation, two cars max, 20 reservations per day total! Crazy? Maybe, but this lakes first month of ticket sales literally sells out in minutes on Ticketmaster. It's like Beatles mania! I have been shut out and know of several other people who have been left out in the cold. No private boats, no barbed hooks, no scent, no bait (artificial only), mandatory catch and release, must be escorted by lake staff to and from the lake on a 4 mile dirt road at specific times only, the list goes on...

It has a very pure strain of Northern large mouth which are much more aggressive than the predominate Florida strain we have in most of our reservoirs. They don't grow as big as the Florida (25+ lb. "Dottie" up the road at Dixon reservoir), but can get over 10 lbs which is rather large for a northern. 100+ fish days are not out of the question and top water from sun up to sun down can be a blast! Moral of the story is a "lure only" lake ca be a great thing! Congrats on a new score of a fishing hole. The close proximately is an added bonus!

I'm all in favor of lure only fishing locations but not sure the unconstitutional argument would win.  There are quite a few places through out the country that are fly fishing only and have been that way for decades.  Yellowstone river in Yellowstone park and in my home state of Michigan sections of the Au Sable river.

We have a similar small lake with no live bait.  They said it had to do with introducing ANY live creatures into the system.

Great to hear, especially with the way your back/health have been and accessibility issues!

It's catch and release too.

I'm thinking to bring a seat and fish. Im over due to wet a line again. There are trails that go around this place too. Most of it hasn't been fished. I'm sure there were poachers in the past. I never seen any so it can't be fished that much.

To be one of the first few to throw the hard and soft baits correctly should be interesting.

Just a few lures should put anyone on the fish, bomber cranks, rapala original minnow, maps inline spinner, 1/4oz white spinnerbait(manns or Walmart) 1/4oz chartreuse spinnerbaits, top water poppers and spooks would or should work.

There's a nearby small dam so the ambushes should be there.

Time to take out the hummingbird portable cast out pod fish finder to checkout the bottom depth and structure.

Sounds like an ideal set up for you.  There are probably plenty of other spots for others that want to use live bait, etc.

Here in upstate NY there are the 2 smallest Finger lakes that are part of the Rochester, NY water supply.  I fish one quite a bit from my kayak.  They allow 10HP. or less motors.  Have to laugh when I watch the trailers being backed down and the vehicle tailpipes in the water; then the boats speed away and they are running a half dozen or more poles on planer boards and downriggers trolling up and down these little lakes.
