*Hank Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Well looking for a good reel around $100 and was wondering how the citica preformed? I can get it of TW for $120 right now. Thanks for any feedback !… Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted December 20, 2014 Super User Posted December 20, 2014 I own 4 of them, E and G series and nary a complaint. For the money, one of the best reels out there in my opinion. 1 Quote

Brian6428 Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I've been using my citica for about 5 months and I love it. It casts great, reels super smooth, and feels great in my palm. I will definitely be buying another. Quote

Super User FishTank Posted December 20, 2014 Super User Posted December 20, 2014 Gander Mountain has them for $100 + 10% off. http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Shimano-Citica-G-Low-Profile-Baitcast-Reel-CI200G7-Right-Retrieve&i=446069 I have the 201G and it is, as others have stated, a great work horse reel. It does everything I ask of it with no complaints. Quote
*Hank Posted December 20, 2014 Author Posted December 20, 2014 Is the older Citica E a better reel? I can get one of ebay for $120. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted December 20, 2014 Super User Posted December 20, 2014 Is the older Citica E a better reel? I can get one of ebay for $120. I have both and don't see any difference between the two. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted December 20, 2014 Super User Posted December 20, 2014 Is the older Citica E a better reel? I can get one of ebay for $120.pm me if you're interested in a 200e. I have one that I can part with. Quote
zell_pop1 Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 The gander mountains near me still sell new citica es for $80. Quote
tnbassfisher Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Have one of the older and one of the newer. No complaints with either. I personally think they are the "best bang for your buck" baitcasting reel around. Quote
Super User deep Posted December 21, 2014 Super User Posted December 21, 2014 Why spend $120 for a new one when you can buy a gently used one for ~$75? Quote
bootytrain Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 TW having the Citica on sale makes me think a new one may be released. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted December 22, 2014 Super User Posted December 22, 2014 I like the Citica G, agree with everyone here. Solid work horse reel and can be a staple of anyone's arsenal. Quote
Philo Beddoe Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I've had mine about 6 months. Not a bad thing to say about it and has performed flawlessly so far. Quote
bootytrain Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I handled them in the store and was amazed how smooth it was for being such a low bearing count. Quote
ColdSVT Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 I handled them in the store and was amazed how smooth it was for being such a low bearing count. quality over quantity Quote
Super User deep Posted December 23, 2014 Super User Posted December 23, 2014 Shimanos in general seem to have a lower bearing count than a comparable (say) Abu Garcia reel. Quote
bootytrain Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Yeah, Im not Impressed with bearing high bearing counts where 4 are in the knobs and 2 on the levelwind lol. Don't get me wrong, they are nice to have though Quote
Wachati Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I can not speak for the newer model citicas, but have 6 of the 200e's. I always pick them up when I see a good deal. $75 is a good buying price, don't pay the $100/ea that some want. I like to pick em up for $60-$75 and then if you want to upgrade bearings or drags you can. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted January 9, 2015 Super User Posted January 9, 2015 I always liked the Citica E, it performed very close to the Curado for quite a bit less money. I use to replace the bushing under the crankshaft with a bearing and change the dartanium drag washers to carbontex and it made for a very nice reel. I preferred the E to the G, but it was just a difference in how one palmed over the other. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I see some expense savings material and hardware wise in the G vs the E series, but don't think there's anything that will adversely affect performance, reliability or longevity. There is a more stark contrast between the current Citica and Curado. Quote
