Selling your rod & reel will not improve your situation.. It could be fishing it not your thing, in that case, focus on what is your thing, hopefully you can latch on to a hobby you will enjoy!

Best wishes...

It's just a Quantum Accurist on a Abu Garcia Vendetta.

I see where your coming from and everything, but I don't think I'd sell your equipment because I really don't see it going for much right now. It's not that you have bad gear or anything, but not many people want anything to do with anything Qauntum below the Smoke models because of all the issues they've had in the past. Honestly they make pretty good tackle now, but they left a bad taste in people's mouths a few years ago that makes everyone reluctant to pick anything up below the Smoke series, and ESPECIALLY if it's used. Maybe if you had an older model Accurist you'd get a little more, but I don't see the current white models getting anywhere close to the same reviews. The other problem you'll face is the fact that people are picking up the first gen Veritas for $50 a piece, and the history of breaking Abu rods have. If you buy it used you don't get a warranty. You also mentioned that you had a few baits, but unless it's a lot of Rapalas or Lucky Crafts they'd be pretty tough to sell outside of the Bassresource Flea Market. So I personally don't see you getting much more than about $40 - $50 for the combo, and MAYBE $60 if you're lucky. That's half of what you're expecting, and although I'm not too knowledgeable about it, I don't see that going very far in the world of motorcross. I'm not trying to be disrespectful or anything just practical. I hope for the best no matter what choice you make though.

i have many hobbies that i seem to rotate through every few years.  I have had many people say, why don't you just sell that old gear because you don;'t use that often.  My response is always the same....i buy things i want to keep and use not things i want to sell.  All  of my gear has memories and enables me to go out and do the old hobbies again.

Also, get a job, and figure things out because $120 or whatever you get isn't going to buy you much of anything or last very long.  Why not try and get a job at a motorcycle shop or get your motorcycle mechanic certification?  keep you in the sport and will open up doors and avenues for cheaper gear and sponsorship down the road.

I asked about a job at a motorcycle shop that I always buy stuff from last year. The guy said it would be a long internship process and even after that I probably wouldn't get the job. If it was close, I'd still find it helpful, but it's about a 20 minute drive. My sister went the motorcycle mechanic route and I don't even believe she has worked in a motorcycle shop. I'd like to be able to work on my own bike, but I have people who already do that for free and I don't have to freeze in the cold. I just know that I have a slight chance of going pro if I really try and I'd like to put the effort forth.

so it sounds to me like you have your mind made up but aren't do anything to go after and get it.....internships aren't about just getting the job in the shop you are interning at.  it is about building skills and relationships that help you down the road.  If you don't get hired after an internship so what, you can't take away experience and skills learned.  If you want to go pro in motocross then you have to do something to go get it, it's not going to be handed to you and it isn't going to be free on the way.

Then go do it. If you have a "slight" chance to go pro, then you have about a 80% better chance than the rest of us do to go pro at ANYTHING.

Everything I've read from your posts tell me you aren't that ambitious, but that is just an assumption. ( and yes... I know what assuming does)

You still need a job... Only in movies do scouts/sponsors pick kids out of the sandlot and take them to the show... Gotta finance the equipment, entry fees, travel expenses, etc... Just to even be noticed.

So did my cousin. Phenomenal bike rider and wake boarder. He sells mortgages to earn a living and races bikes and wakeboards as a hobby.

Ok, I'll be the one to point out the obvious here: You stated that you're already an old man in the sport of motocross, and you're not a pro. Old men don't ride bikes; they fish. Keep your fishing stuff.

And, Get a job. Until you get a job, finding a job should be your full-time job.

ultimately it is your decision but you are asking for some advice. So, my first suggestion would be to find a job. I'm not sure how you are supporting yourself now. Your equipment is good, but you're not going to get much for it.I would keep the gear find a job and pursue the motocross.if you really enjoy fishing then you are going to want to do that at some point even if it is to just get away and relax for couple hours.good luck in whatever you end up deciding

Just had this idea pop into my head about an hour ago and now I'm really considering it. I love fishing, but I never go and I have other stuff I need to spend my money on. That, and even if I do sell my stuff we still have other rods and reels I can use. I don't like to go fishing by myself and no one ever wants to go. I need the money for more bike and quad parts, maybe even training gear for MMA. I wouldn't have posted this, but I figured I'd get plenty of helpful opinions, and probably be called crazy a few times.

Off topic since your in to mma, how bout that body kick my machida?!

One good thing about fishing gear and no job, at least if you're hungry you can catch a meal.  Keep your stuff, go get a job, and go ride on your days off.  When you don't feel like riding on your days off, go fish.

Put it in storage.

You will return to fishing one day in the future and you will be glad you have the equipment.

Merry Christmas!
