Glenn has a good, short video on overhead casting accuracy.  I rarely have a problem there anymore.  Where I struggle is sidearm/roll casting.  I generally seem to seek out targets that require low trajectory.  Pitching and flipping certainly have their place and uses, but I would like to be more accurate with my side arm casts and skipping.   I'd say maybe 40% of the time, it'll be exactly where I want it; 40% of the time 'close' or even 'close enough'....10% that are backlashed or otherwise stupid....and then there's that other 10% that are way off or into the bush/tree....5 or more feet away, etc. :)

The loop cast or roll cast is done with a circular wrist motion and very little side arm rod movement.

You draw a circle in the air with the rod tip, the lure hanging about 12" down.

Try watching Hank Parker casting, he using this casting technique. I prefer the loop or roll cast over pitching because I have been doing this long before pitching became popular.

I'm not tossing jigs into cover with a 1 power rod, lol.

Yeah, me either J. Was just suggesting the OP start by practicing on educating his thumb and the roll cast and then move up to heavier tackle. It would have helped me avoid many snagged docks and clanging pontoon boats  :angel500:

Unless I am trying to bomb a lure for distance or casting 20 foot distances I like to use the same power in my casts and just control the line with my thumb to either let it keep going or to stop it.
