bbodkin Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Hey guys. So I'm getting into kayak fishing and I would like to start filming. I just got an iPhone 6 and the camera isn't actually all that bad. I lost my camera and my iPhone is a good substitute. I am wanting to know if there is a mount that exists, that will hold my iPhone securely down. There is a flat little console in front of you on this kayak. It's the Old Town Vapor 10. And the tray is perfect for a camera mount. I am just looking for some pointers on how to make/where to buy a good phone mount for filming. Thanks guys. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted December 18, 2014 Super User Posted December 18, 2014 The are some nice tripod mounts for iPhones I have one but I wouldn't use it on the water. It holds the phone tight but the risk of dunking or getting the phone wet are too high and the cost of the phone too much for me to risk it. This one is made by Square Jellyfish. It's attached to a Gorilla Pod tripod. There are several other ways to mount it including Ram mounts. Quote
Jaderose Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I'm guessing I'm from a different generation but my phone STAYS HOME when I fish. I also don't carry a camera . I don't think I've ever taken a picture of a fish I've caught and I don't have any special skills that would interest anyone. I fish to get AWAY from all that. GET OFF MY LAWN!!! Quote
xxmurrxx Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I wouldn't want to ruin a 600$+ phone by gettting it wet... Maybe they make a waterproof case? Personally i'd get a decent / cheap camera that has waterproof features. 1 Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted December 18, 2014 Super User Posted December 18, 2014 (edited) I wouldn't want to ruin a 600$+ phone by gettting it wet... Maybe they make a waterproof case? Personally i'd get a decent / cheap camera that has waterproof features. feel the same.... i have an olympus that's built like a tank and does video and photos. i bought a scotty rod camera mount for like $20 bucks that screws into the camera and then goes into the scotty rod mount base. your quality probably won't be as good as you think and your battery will drain fairly fast on the phone as well. and the last thing i would want to do is fool around and drop the phone in the water. EDIT: meant to add that i put my phone, wallet, keys, etc. in a dry bag and put that down in the console of the kayak so nothing gets wet, lost or otherwised ruined. odell015 Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I use the ram mount. It's awesome. My iPhone has an otter box which can be submerged. Check mine out in action. It can swivel 360 degrees and has been great so far. Email me with any questions. 1 Quote
