dragulagto Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Fished on Logan Martin in Alabama yesterday. One of the fish that I caught had about a six inch Lamprey stuck to it's dorsal fin. I was surprised at how much blood it could draw through the fin. Note the red spot on it's fin in the attached pic. Wondered if anyone else has see these things on Logan Martin. This is my first encounter with one however I have caught fish with these red sores on them before. So maybe they had Lampreys stuck to them but got pulled off when I reeled them in. I hope these things don't start hurting the population. Nasty looking thing! 1 Quote
DFrench97 Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 We have em up here. Friend hooked into a nice chinook with one on its back. Mid jump the chinook shook the hook and the eel, and the hook snagged the eel in mid air. It was a big one though, probably 25+ incher. Ugly things! Quote

Super User everythingthatswims Posted December 19, 2014 Super User Posted December 19, 2014 They come up to the rivers near my house in the spring to spawn, but they don't feed during their run so it's fine. Very weird to see a 3' eel with teeth swimming around in a tiny creek. What's even crazier is that they make it all the way here from the bay! I have even seen them in trout streams. They STINK...BAD. Quote
