Anyone fishing the 10XD crank. it might be my new favorite "deep water " crank. especially for fish suspending brush piles in about 25-35 ft of water. the bass are inhaling it.

I have been using my "big lipped cranking" setup which is a Revo Winch with the 5.4:1 and a 7'10" Medium Heavy tour KVD cranking rod.

It seems to be "working" but the rod just doesn't have the back for this lure. what are you guys using for this monster crankbait. Ive heard not so good things about the heavy crankbait rods. that they dont throw like a normal cranking rod. any recommendation's?

Ive been using the Champ 805CBRM for the 10XD (hate the bait as it pulls like an anchor) , prefer the New DUO 20A as it casts further and dives deeper..

The 806 would be better as it will have a tad more power and you wont be fighting the bait as much..

Though I haven't been able to fish them yet, I did pick up a small assortment of the Duo 20A baits on Black Friday.  I'm a big fan of many of their other baits so I was hoping for the best.  So I'm glad to hear your brief review.

I'm throwing them on an old school Lamiglas SR 765R Skeet Reese Series glass stick and braid.

I am using a St. Croix Rage 7'11" heavy-mod/fast for 10XDs as I already had the rod on hand when I bought the crankbaits. Were I to go out and buy a rod specifically for 10XDs, the Dobyns Champion 806CB seems to have a lot of fans.  The Dobyns and the Rage have the same power & action...but the Dobyns is said to have a somewhat softer tip that might help launch these big baits better than the Rage.

Here's a couple of recent "rod for 10XDs" threads you might want to check out:

I own a dobyns 805 and 806. The 805 works decent with a 10xd but the 806 was built for it. Get the 806 and never look back! I throw the heck out of the 10xd, it's one of my favorite baits!

I threw the bait on Kentucky for 1/2 a day, on the 7'11" rage as well. The rod did fine. But that bait is a monstrosity to me.. Not my cup of tea. Still no problem with the rod though. If I were sold on the 10 xd I believe Kistler markets a rod for that crank.

I'm using a TFO 7'6"EH Rod I had laying around its a fast action. With the size of hooks on the 10XD I don't see needing a slower action rod.

I have the Kistler 10XD rod and I use it to throw a-rigs. I have thrown a 10XD on it though and I have also used the Dobyns 806CB, the Dobyns is a lot better for the 10XD.

Yeah. the bait is kind of overwhelming but i think fish seeing a crankbait that deep get interested . I feel like they are used to seeing jigs/carolina rigs/ spinner baits deep on and over brush piles.

I have never had deep fish in cold water follow a lure like they were following the 10XD.

I fish a lot of resevoirs that have moderately steep banks. the water is usually a few feet deep off the bank and about 50 ft out is about 25-35 feet. so a crankbait that can cover the entire drop is crucial for me. Am i wrong?  i feel like alot of people dont like these huge baits. but the size seems to "match the hatch" the blueback herring's or blueback shad seem to look identical to the stikekings sexy shad. the colors are spot on.

I imagine fishing bridges it would be a great locater. expecially in a situation where there isnt alot of cover to hang you up shallow digging down the banks to the creek channel would be killer way to find out where they are holding on the bridge. especially in a "need a kicker fish situation"

my only problem is the striper want this bait just as much and i seem to catch just as many striper as i do largemouth. which isnt a reel complaint. but when it comes tourny time it could get old.

I am not a big deep cranker, but I have thrown the 10XD on my G Loomis SWBR 953 and it has worked fine.  I didn't feel underpowered or anything.  I have meaning to toss the 10XD on my NRX 916 UBR, but I just haven't done it yet to see how it feels.

Hmm, these Duo 20's look like something that should be added to my arsenal...

I was thinking the same thing!
