Super User BassinLou Posted December 15, 2014 Super User Posted December 15, 2014 I have a mixture of lines which I use for my baitcasters right now. I think it's more complicated than it needs to be. One thing that I am considering is using a base line for most if not all setups. If you were to pick one line (type and lb. test) for all baitcasting setups what would that be? If I were to pick only one line it would be PP 40lb braid. I can throw multiple applications with this line including utilizing a leader if need be. 1 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted December 15, 2014 Super User Posted December 15, 2014 Where I fish I'd have to say 50lb braid. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted December 16, 2014 Super User Posted December 16, 2014 A brother-in-law in Florida fishes with spinning rods only, and 40# original PP only. I don't think he has a MH rod. Works for him. No leaders either. He pretty much sticks with 2 lures, a weightless 10" ribbontail worm on a 5/0 hook, and a #11 Rapala. This year he decided to add spinnerbaits because last year I caught 6 in about 10-12 casts and this year I caught the only large fish on one the last day as we were heading in. A local friend uses 15# CXX on most of his baitcast reels. Don't know about his spinning reels. Personally my standards are 12# mono on MH rods, and 8# mono on Medium rods. Spinning is mostly 8# mono. Brands are still being explored. I like Sufix brand, but others do quite well, too. Naturally a few combos have something else on them, but 8# & 12# mono fill most spools. Sonik Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 If I had to pick one line it would be P-Line CXX Crystal Clear. It's inexpensive and works well. I'm kind of moving that way now as I work through a miscellaneous supplies. P-Line Floroclear has never failed me but I'm getting into cranking more and more and I feel like the CXX has a little more stretch. Anywho... P-Line CXX Crystal Clear in 20, 14, and 10lbs. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted December 16, 2014 Super User Posted December 16, 2014 Yo zuri or big game all a person needs Quote
hatrix Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 I would say 12#-15# CXX. If it was any other line I would just say 15# but CXX is not like any other line. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 16, 2014 Super User Posted December 16, 2014 Usually its either 15# Big Game or 15# Yo-Zuri Hybrid on the baitcasters and 10# on the spinning reel. Quote
Super User Raul Posted December 16, 2014 Super User Posted December 16, 2014 One line to rule them all: Berkley Trilene Big Game. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted December 16, 2014 Author Super User Posted December 16, 2014 Great feedback as always from everyone ... thanks ... My spinning setups have all been narrowed down to 15lb Braid with 6-10 FC leaders as necessary. I also have an extra spool which holds 8lb FC just in case. That worked for me well last year. As for my baitcasters I am all over the place right now but there are two definitive setups Flippin stick - 50lb braid Topwater - 15lb Mono The rest are still up for debate and range from 10 - 20 FC. As I experiment with the suggestions provided I will update this thread. Thanks a TON and Merry Christmas! Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted December 20, 2014 Super User Posted December 20, 2014 I don't think you can effectively cover all techniques with one line. I'd say you need one froggin/flippin rod with braid and at least one spinning rod with light line. However you can cover a lot of techniques with a good co-poly or hybrid line in 12 or 15 pound. How'd I ever get by with just a Shakespeare spinning outfit with Stren mono on it when I was a kid ?!?!?!? oh, the HORROR! 1 Quote

My spinning setups have 6# mono and 10# braid where I have 2nd spools. My baitcasters too, are "all over the place" with 20 & 30# braid or 10# mono / fluoro.I surmise that it might just be because we're stuck inside for a good chunk of winter and have more time to read this forum & try everything under the sun? Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you & everyone! 1 Quote
okbassguy Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I would go with 30 lb power pro super slick it's $19.98 for a spool of 150 yds it has then same diameter as 8 lb mono that's my opinion! Only thing it might not work well with is like deep cranking? Good luck but I think braids the way to go if not 15 lb fluorocarbon vicious or seaguar even sunline if your willing to spend that kind of money! Quote

Doesn't help my checkbook or savings account though. I just got 3 reels back from Mike @ DVT & plan on sending a couple more after Christmas, pending OT and side-work.... BTW, is 'meery' in a NY accent? If so, Mehrie Chriistmis to you too (Bawstin accent) Quote

Super User Darren. Posted December 21, 2014 Super User Posted December 21, 2014 BC: 20lb yellow Power Pro + Leader Spin: 10lb yellow Power Pro + Leader Quote
smallieking Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 15 lb Seaguar invizx flouro carbon is the most versatile line i ever use. topwaters would require a mono leader but other than that u can throw almost anything on 15 pound flouro Quote

Robert Riley Posted December 28, 2014 Posted December 28, 2014 You could go the leader way, and have braid on all with leaders in varying lines. OR, you could have braid and copoly haha. It can depend on what you do though. If you fish cover, you need heavier braid, if you fish clear highland reseviors, youre gonna want light fluoro. I'm from the Midwest, so I have 14lb fluoro for jigs and 12 copoly for cranks and spinnerbaits. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted December 28, 2014 Super User Posted December 28, 2014 Yo zuri 6 and 12 with big game right beside it Quote
jitterbug127 Posted December 29, 2014 Posted December 29, 2014 I like 30 lb pp if i had to use 1 line with 8 to 15 leaders Quote
