Super User new2BC4bass Posted December 15, 2014 Super User Posted December 15, 2014 Have a chance to pick this spool up at a good price. It would require me making spacers, but no problem there. I am looking at putting it on a rod with hopes of casting down to at least 1/8 oz. using 6# mono. Originally posted on TT as there seems to be a lot more Daiwa users there, but I know some of you here also use Daiwas although you probably wouldn't admit to using any Daiwa other than the Tatula. Thanks. EDIT: Or would I be better off getting the 100m spool? EDIT2: DVT tuned the reel and upgraded the bearings and drag. EDIT3: Indicator in title should have said Inductor. My apologies. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 The lightest, lowest line capacity spool you can get will help with finesse baitcasting. I'm not positive which that is between these two without looking it up or what reasonable expectations would be. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted December 15, 2014 Super User Posted December 15, 2014 100M is capable of 1/8oz. Rod choice is very important. Quote
Super User Raul Posted December 15, 2014 Super User Posted December 15, 2014 You can't put a 105 spool into a Fuego, it' not compatible, you can use a 100M or a HLC spool into a Fuego. BTW it' s not "indicator", it's INDUCTOR. Quote

BTW it' s not "indicator", it's INDUCTOR. I see I did it again. Didn't pay attention to my spelling. Sorry about that. Why are they not compatible? Seller told me it would fit a TD-Z. I tried the spool from my TD-Z 103ML in the Fuego, and it appeared to work fine. Of course I didn't make any casts sitting in my computer room. The TD-Z spool has a smaller diameter than the Fuego spool, but I can take care of that with a spacer. I need to know if there is some other difference between the spools that would keep them from being interchangeably. Thanks. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted December 15, 2014 Super User Posted December 15, 2014 It's not a direct fit in the Fuego but I guess if you have the spacers you can do it. The R+ inductor lends itself more towards a very experienced thumb. It will be more finicky but the potential for greater distance from lighter lures is there. I have 103H, 105H and 1016 spools that I use in my TD-Z's and I can't tell any difference between the 103H and 105H spools in actual use. The 105H may be a low(er) capacity spool but it holds a LOT of 6 lb line! Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted December 15, 2014 Super User Posted December 15, 2014 I know you have sent him reels before so I would direct and email or message to Ebassfisher over there and ask him. He has probably done these exact upgrades and chances are good he has done them multiple times. He has modded and specifically altered many reels to fit various parts especially high end and JDM reels. If there is a performance advantage on the finesse side of it or long distance casting of normal to heavier baits he could probably give you some input on that as well. I absolutely love my TDZ 100M but have zero experience with R+ spool. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted December 15, 2014 Super User Posted December 15, 2014 I don't know if money is an issue, but Megabass just released a new honeycomb spool that would fit. The Zillion PE spool works well too, because it's pretty shallow. Quote

That´s why I said it´s not compatible, there will be a gap between the edge of the spool and the frame, same applies to Pixy spools in an Alphas/ Sol frame. The R+ inductor spool is only available for the 103 model, there´s no 105 R+ spool and there has never been one. The difference between a 103 spool and a 105 spool is the depth, the 105 is shallower than the 103, the 105 is meant for 8-10 lb test, the 103 for 10-12lb test, 100 for 12-14 lb test. BTW, I did mention that the HLC spool is compatible, forgot to mention, it´s the HLC ZILLION spool the one compatible with the Fuego, the regular HLC spool is not compatible. There is a Megabass honeycomb spool compatible with the Fuego but, at 210 dollars plus S&H I would rather go around looking for an Alphas Type F or a Sol. You can find those still relatively cheap. In reverse order: Megabass spool is out of the question. If I could afford that, I'd buy a Pixy. I will keep the HLC Zillion spool in mind if I want to switch spools on another reel. I don't back out of a deal once committed to it. If the spool doesn't work for what I want it for, it will be an expensive learning experience. One not to be repeated. I was aware of the differences in spool capacity although I never stopped to consider if there were line preferences for each size. I didn't know there was only a 103 R+ inductor spool. However, that fact may actually be a benefit to me. I've read you need an educated thumb for reels with high performance spools like the +R. I have 3 outfits that I can toss a 3/16 oz. Shad Rap about as far as I can toss a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait on a MH rod. However, dropping a measly 1/16 oz. to 1/8 oz. gives me fits. More practice. Currently I don't plan on going below 1/8 oz. on any of my baitcasters. Hopefully the shallower spool with light line will accomplish that for me. I do have a tuned and upgraded TD-Z 105H, but don't plan to pull it off its current rod....which according to the seller will handle less than 1/8 oz. even though that is its lower listing. I have no problem making spacers for the conversion. I am currently running a Presso spool in one of my Sols. Had to make spacers for that. I have several reel options for the spool. I first considered a Fuego because I have 3 and I know Gary Kilmartin throws some pretty light wights with his. I like these better than a Sol for some reason. I do have another Sol that could be used. I also have a tuned and upgraded Alphas F plus 2 Purple Alphas reels, although I believe they are stock except for the drag. Would one of these be better than another for what I am trying to do? I am a huge fan of the Alphas, but for that reason thought to keep them on rods that will be seeing more action than the rod that I will be using with the 105 spool. Thanks for your help. Quote

If you're paying that much for the spool, I'd shop somewhere else. Quote
