whats academy?

Academy Sports a chain of sporting goods stores extremely common ( for example, MacAllen, Texas, a small town a stone cast from the Mexico US border has 2 Academy stores, that´s how common they are, almost like Walmarts )  in the southern states of the Union, so as you might guess correctly the person suggesting you go to Academy must be from the south. Academy has it´s own line of reels and lures too.

Go to Academy and grab some H2O xpress reels. They are made by Daiwa. And same as aird.

Where are you getting this info? All of the Academy reels use centrifugal brakes, and Daiwa uses magnetic brakes. How are they the same?

The Lexa is $70 on TW right now. The Tatula can be had on eBay or Amazon for $95-100. I've owned both. The Tatula is a better reel but if you don't have the budget then the Lexa is not a bad choice at all. just have to decide which one is for you.

For me the choice is a no-brainer..............the Lexa is a metal framed reel, the Arid is not. And right now the Lexa is cheaper (where they are on sale)..........Lexa all day, every day. I am not anti-graphite frame reel guy, it's fine for spinning reels, but it's a crap shoot with casting reels. Some (Abu Max series) have been really good, rugged, and reliable for me, while most others have not.

Hmm how about the lews speed spool ss1 or the lexa?

Lexa, hands down.

If you can afford the extra upcharge try to get the Tatula, its a great reel, best bang for the buck in my opinion! For about $95 shipped you can get a signifcanlty upgraded reel  vs the Lexa (TWS and Air Rotation).  I have a Tatula Type R and reach for it more than some of the higher end reels I own!

If you want to go Daiwa I would look to go with the Tatula and they can be found low $90's easy on Ebay from Reputable dealers, but the best deal on the market right now is the speed spool combo with the IM8 Rod at academy for $99 or the reel for $69....The lexa is a great reel, but they have been $70 for the last 6 months at someplace somewhere and the new aird is really nice, the older one was just the exceler with color to me.

The White Revo is $94 right now as well. Sometimes spending the extra $20 will put you in an entire different range this time of year, and for a reel you will use for years, I try to not save the $20, but I have a tough time since I would be happy with a Lexa or Aird, or Exceller, but the T-wing is really nice in my opinion, speed spool super light, and the rod is actually $129 I believe, and the Reel is rarely under $99 was $129 to start the year, I would pick up that combo, my buddy just picked it up for $69, literally saved $130 actually more, but it is super light and was a dream flipping a jig with it...I am now getting one today, selling the reel, don't need it and I have a free $100 rod,

do that with the Aird as well, By the combo for $79, sell the rod for $50...Lexa combos are $99, Rod goes for $79 easy

I have 2 tatula type R's I also got a lexa 100 earlier in the year since i found it new for 60$.

My recommendation is the tatula but I discovered something interesting yesterday. I went out fishing with the lexa for the first time and caught a few decent pickerel and a small largemouth and I was throwing a rapala scatter rap shad the 05 model. I was already impressed because I thought I was throwing a 1/4 oz lure and was getting nice distance with it with 12lb vanish floro however this morning i researched the lure and come to find out the size 5 scatter rap weighs in at 3/16oz so I'm pretty impressed with the casting of the reel having a traditional levelwind vs. the T-wing of the tatula and only having magforce breaking and not the magforce z or 3d.

just my input. you can get 2 lexas on ebay for the price of 1 type r Tatula and though I love my tatulas thats a deal that can't be beat.
