Basiclly yes.  I do 8 up and 8 down as well as put a couple half hitches in the tag end of the braid to lock it(my preference).  Heavier lines I may go 10-12 wraps up and same down. Never used any of the stuff he put on the knot though.  Have put a small drop of superglue on it before. But don't do it all the time.

First of all, #50 mono is WAY too big for any type of bass fishing.

The "Improved Albright" is called an "Alberto Knot". You don't need

glue, but I suggest CAREFULLY using a lighter to creat a small

knob on the braided tag end.

Wow, I agree with RW, 50 mono is overkill.

 

You could catch tuna with that setup, LOL.

 

I find the best for me - and keeping the slimmest

possible knot - is from 8-12 wraps up, and 4-5

back down. Similar to the video.

 

I'm also using 10 and 20 lb braid with anywhere

from a 6-15 lb leader. And I will use glue from time

to time. I just picked up some Zap-A-Gap glue to

keep with me for various reasons. 

 

If I recall, Knot Wars found they had better success

with about half the wraps back down the knot as

they did otherwise. YMMV

I originally bought a spool of 50lb mono for juvenile bull sharks. I have found 50lb mono is incredibly versatile. I use it as a leader on my ice fishing traps with success. The 50lb mono is very abrasion resistant; while also being minimally visible. 50lb+ braid seems like common practice for largemouthed fish, why should 50lb mono be so far fetched?

Unless you are using that knot for some saltwater presentation that lb of mono is pretty darn thick. Lol. If you tell me its 50lb braid with 12-15lb mono i would say 7 wraps up and 3 down, lube with spit and cinch down. You will have 0 problems with that knot and a much smaller profile than going 7 and 7.

Because 50lb braid is around the same diameter of 12-14lb mono, and 50lb mono is as thick as, well, 50lb mono...

A little trick i use is to use clear fingernail polish on the knot.

I dont go down more than three wraps . Battled tarpon, shark, snook, reds, bass and pike with no issue...great knot!

50lb braid is only as thick as 12# mono in most cases, 50lb mono is what we like to call "goat rope" and I couldn't even imagine trying to cast with it or even spool it on a reel. As far as that knot, I was under the impression that the knot in that video can only be done on heavy mono as the smaller 10# and 12# line needs to use a knot that both lines have to wrapped otherwise it will slip. I'm not sure as it was quite some time ago and after using braid and then trying leaders and all that stuff I just quit doing it and now when I use braid I tie direct.

I use the albright with 20#PP to 10#fc quite often...i usually go 15 up and 3 down...no issues...just lube the knot liberally

Just to add a little perspective. Swimbait guys are using #30 line when fishing baits that weigh 6 ounces and catching double digit fish.

I use 4 wraps down and 5 back up
