I was literally just coming here to post about this but you beat me to it. I would like to see the opinions of other members with more knowledge than I have.

None of those brands ever interested me.  I'd rather have a hand laid hull than a chop gun boat.

J, of course everyone would want a beautiful hand laid hull but the vast majority of us purchase the manufactured boats as they come off the assembly line or in the used boat marketplace.

 

What concerns me is that we have lost three compeitiors unless BPS allows the status quo to remain for a few years.

 

I hope BPS does not reduce the quality of these three boats down to the level of Tracker and Nitro.

 

And what about service?  BPS Tracker service sucks on a good day.  And to find a BPS shop with a qualified Mercury mechanic is like finding the biggest bass on the planet.

 

Time will tell.

Johnny is a pretty smart guy so I'm sure it was a good move.  Makes a lot of sense with how close the companies were anyways.  Now they can ship all on the same trucks to dealers, and they will instantly have a lot more dealers for Ranger / Triton / Startos is Bass Pro's sell them.  Quality will be the same.  What will be interesting to see is what happens with the whole FLW / Walmart thing.

From reading the article seems like BPS is basically paying the bills. The article focused on the Ranger line up, stating that management, production etc will remain the same. The same parent company already owned Ranger, Triton and Stratos.

I read the article, but I don't see anywhere where they are gonna be building the crafts. What I'm getting out of it is it gives BPS, and Fish Holdings LLC a bigger dealership network where they can sell each other's crafts. You can purchase through BPS, but pick up a Triton, at a Tracker dealer or a Tracker at a Ranger dealer. That's what I'm getting out of it, but I could be wrong.

Maybe now I can go to the BPS web site and get to see and compare pricing on the boats instead of having to call or Email a dealer for a quote.

I would never buy a Ranger at a BPS for the exact same reason I would never buy a John Deere lawn tractor at a Home Depot.   It is not going to be the same animal.

So if Ranger, Stratos and Triton were all already owned by the same corporation i would bet it will stay status quo and this is just a shrewd marketing move to corner the market.  I highly doubt they will  have those products only available at BPS but you never know...

What is strange is that the  BPS in Ashland, Virginia, just north of Richmond off I-95, has had two  used Tritons for sale for the past two months.

 

I had never seen a Triton at a BPS store and of course was wondering if they were trade-ins on Nitros.

 

I made a $10,000 offer on the $25,000 Triton but turned down. The boat department manager told me they paid more than $10,000 for the Triton and he thought he had a buyer for this January t the $25,000 price tag.

 

Wonder if the Triton was sent to BPS by Triton as part of the deal to sell it or if BPS sent them to Ashland as a test marketplace.

The Nitro boats seem nice enough to me.. They are affordable also. You saw Triton just came out w/a new 22 and 20 ft model. They are still higher end boats. Also, you can get your boats worked on at local shops. One by me does full boat repair work.

True... Evinrude does the motors that come stock on the Rangers and they are both sponsors of the Walmart FLW Tour. It'll be interesting to see how things pls out.

I'm surprised nobody has posted this yet? I got the news today that Ranger, Stratos, & Triton boat cos. have been bought by Johnny Morris and the Bass pro shops group. A friend of mine who writes for Western outdoors news sent me the news via a e-mail this afternoon.

I think what will change is going to be based on what the reasoning was for purchasing by BPS. if its to eliminate other brands then there could easily be substantial changes. Most likely that's not the case though. What will realistically change is where the money ends up and that's it. This is not wal mart buying the local mom and pop convenience store (even though that was my intial reaction). It's big business trading money for technology and branding. At my heart I hate to see big business swallow up small companies but that's not what's happening here I don't think.

Had not heard that yet, but that is really big news! It will be interesting to see how that plays out. If anything, I wonder if being folded into a company as big as BPS will lead to a price drop on new boats.

This will be very interesting to watch.  Some of the boat companies that he has bought have disappeared like the Kenner which was beating his Mako.  Some of the others have been reduced in quality in my estimation.  He has improved the quality of the Nitro in the last few years.

 

It probably will take a few years to see which way he goes.
