Can someone rank these reels... 

I have heard that some of the older ones are better than the newer ones.

G7? G5? B5s? 

 

I ran across a guy getting rid of a lot of them...  is there any to watch out for ?

Which is the best, whicch is the worst?

Personally I think they all are good.  However here the list that I would rank them

 

1.  Curado E Series

2. Curado G Series

3.  Curado D Series

4. Curado B Series

 

Have yet to get the new I series.  Curados are bullet proof and you won't find  one that is bad.

The G7 & G5 are the same reel in different gear ratios The G5 is a low IPT cranking reel. The G series is smaller and lighter than the B series. The B are absolute tanks though. Can't kill'em.

I have a couple low end Caenans just looking to move up a bit.... I do like the size of the Caenan which one compares as far as the same size?

The curado g is the same frame as the Caenan

E, D, B (simply because age), G, A (no letter).  Haven't used a new I yet, just taken apart, though I'd say it ranks at least with a D or E.

While it may look exactly the same, The Ceanan is a graphite frome, while the Curado is aluminum.  To say they are the same is a little misleading.

I was talking about size. As in it is the exact same shape/form

E series is sweet.  B series are just unbreakable workhorses and can be found at reasonable prices from time to time.  To me, the g series is just weaker all around and i'm not a fan and i have no experience with a D.

But E series would be my preference all around.

If that's what you're used to, any Curado would be not a step up, but a jump up!

 

I love G's and E's equally. Both are solid reels, and the G is lighter. The D is absolutely a beast, but not good for casting anything under 1/2 oz (in my hands). The B feels to me a little clunky (not performancewise though). No idea about the Red Tomatoes. Didn't fish for bass back then.

in my personal favorite order: 1.the I its been my favorite so far. 2.the E.i don't own one but my friend does&what little I've used it it was sweet. 3. the G.everybody hated that this was what replaced the E but I personally liked it. it was no where near what the curados of old were but it was still a nice a reel.could I justify the extra $30 for it over the citica G? probably not but like I said still durn good reels.can't comment on any curados older than the E, i'm too young to remember them& was too inexperienced at that time to be using baitcasters.

I would rate:

 

No 1 Curado D series

No 2 Curado E series

No 3 Curado G series 

No 4 Curado B series

 

I can´t rate the my beloved B series Curados higher because even though they are built like tanks they lack of many of the properties of the first two in my ratings that made those more Chonarch like than Curado like. The G series are excellent reels, really excellent but are not as highly regarded as the others because after Shimano raised the bar with the D and E series the G was a "step down"  with more B series like components.

 

I can´t comment anything on the I series, and so far, I´m not interested in one and probably won´t get one.

The E and G series are near the same size; the G series being a tad bit longer in length and height.  This makes it palm slightly different and depending on our personal preference it may be for the better or worse.  Personally I like how the G series palms in my hands better but I still prefer the E series overall. 

 

The G series is a excellent reel and really is better than what most people make it out to be.  Just that the E series set the bar so high and shimano didn't really upgrade the g series over it at all.  Most people complain about the dragstar not being made out of aluminum but most forget that the B series that made the Curado what it is today had a composite dragstar. 

 

The B series reel is still a good value and you can score on off of ebay for $70-80 everyday.  Not as refined in the gearing (smooth feeling) as the versions after it but still respectable even compared to the new reels in that $80-130 range. I still own 4 of them and have no plan on getting rid of them.

They were and still are outstanding reels! Kinda like a ford 9 inch...not really refined, but can take a serious beating and keep on workin!

I've actually had Pete's reels in my hands.  They are pretty much in as good working condition as anyone's newer reels.  They're worn on the outside, but they are smooth and solid as anything. I asked him about them, and he said he just hasn't had any reason to replace them.

The only ones that ever impressed me enough to keep them more than a year or two were the 51e's. Hated the G, D was heavy and clunky but rock solid and bullet proof, and I am one of the few people on earth that must have gotten two lemon B's in a row. If I we're to go back to Shimano, I would just look for good used E series reels.

I might be one of the others, though the ones I tried out might have been the "A" or unlettered original.  We didn't get along too well, but that was like 20 years ago, so maybe it was me.

In my opinion the D series is the "best" most solidly made Curado I've fished. I haven't fished the new I series yet so I, like many other in this thread, can't give any thoughts on it.

I'd rank them as follows: D  E  B  G.

 

My personal favorite series is the E but I really really regret selling the one B SF I had. It was a very good reel for it's $150 price tag. I was very surprised at the post here from the gentleman that stated that he felt the D series was only good for casting heavier weights. I've found mine to be the equal of the E series in every aspect of casting/pitching performance. I'm referring to the 200 size of course.
