Lake Stocking By Plane?

So I was bored one night as a often am, and decided to hit YouTube for some fishing videos when I found this video.. it is the Utah DNR stocking I could only guess remote lakes by plain.

But questions come into play, like at the speed and altitude of the plain, doesn't that potentially kill the fish. If not at last cause unneeded stress? What about the over shot of the targeted area, is there waste there?

That's been done for years.  There is probably some "waste" but it works.  I fished one small reservoir that was routinely stocked that way with rainbow trout.  There's places where there is no other way to get the fish to the lake.

Using an airplane, or a "plane" can work and I believe as is posted above that they have been doing it for a few years.

 

We don't use planes in Virginia to stock our waters as we can access our waters from boat ramps and the bank.

Even if there is a little waste as the saying goes "Turtles gotta eat too". I imagine most survive or they woulda given up on it a long time ago.

Would it be more beneficial to stock with a helicopter sup less stress? I mean I don't want to sound like I am crying to PETA but these where just some questions that came to mind.

If they die they die. Nothing in nature goes to waste. I'd be more concerned with people keeping/ mounting big bass, as you should be too OP. Remind us about you and your brother's 6 pounders, will you?

Oh Yeah the ONLY fish I have EVER kept? Thats right, I forgot to mention that. That I fish for sport and do not eat anything that I catch and have only kept one fish. I regularly pratic CPR, can that be said about everyone else? I am sure not, but I am not throwing anyone who eats what they fish, nor am I critisizing anyone who chooses to mount that one fish, or even others,

From a money aspect it might be better to stock with a better low stress method. And who's to say that it wasn't looked into. Maybe the live/kill ratio is about the same. That's all I am wondering.

To strong. It's called passion, and it's good to see. People who are passionate about their sport take it serious and don't stand for poaching, over fishing and other important causes.

Ive seen it happen on a video in a lake in Georgia.

Here in the Adirondacks, New York State DEC uses helicopters to stock remote ponds/lakes.  I would guess the survival rates have been studied to death before they started doing it.

I've seen video's of using planes in the High Sierra's here in CA.  Seen them use the truck and dump them in, also seen them dipnet the trout (to me a lot worse then dropping them out of a plane since the ones at the bottom are crushed by the weight of their buddies.  Might have a higher survival rate though in some of the places I fish if they did drop them from a plane......the bass and stripers learn the schedule of stocking and wear (think they have a private number to the dfg or buddies on the inside) because the minute those fish hit the water, well lets say it looks like an aquarium at feeding time.  Dumped over deeper water by plane would offer them more chances to adjust without being subject to predation as easily since they wouldn't be pinned to the bank and have room to move and escape.   Just my thoughts.  But if concerned, maybe we should get them little parachutes.....j/k

Yeah I couldn't see a DNR wasting money on the death. I know in MN there are some private stocking done with walleye, and they are almost double the price per fish stocked, but they aren't fry our fingerlings.
