Super User buzzed bait Posted December 8, 2014 Super User Posted December 8, 2014 So I thought i would be able to break down my reel, clean it and hopefully fix a sticky thumb bar that was bothering me. Well, it went horribly wrong as i really should have expected. I am the world's worst engineer/mechanic and really should have left this to a professional. Now i'm having an issue after putting it back together! The drag star just doesn't seem to be working at all, no loosening or tightening at all and doesn't appear to be "seated" properly. in other words, i can see the drag washers through the crack. i'm hoping to find some schematics on the reel, but no luck thus far. could anyone point me in the right area for finding the reel schematics and perhaps also offer any insight on where in the world i went wrong (aside from everything)? thanks! Super User HoosierHawgs Posted December 8, 2014 Super User Posted December 8, 2014 Shimano has schematics for their discontinued reels on their website. If you can't find it or need parts call them or shoot them an email. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Try this: http://www.mikesreelrepair.com/schematics/albums/shimano/Shimano_CU201.pdf If you need to, call me and I'll either talk you through it or give you the info to send in. 973-459-2835 Quote

John G Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 I am an adult (45) and I can do many things that other adults do like changing the brake pads on my truck, change the oil, put together tv stands, assemble BBQ grill etc but I can't psychologically take on the task of tearing down a fishing reel to clean it. IMHO, my reasons are easy for me to understand. I took apart my first baitcaster, a Shimano Bantam Mag Plus 250SG, when I was 12 or 13 and try as hard as I could, I couldn't get it back together. I didn't even remove C Clips or anything like that. I just took the handle side side plate off and I specifically remember the little springs giving me a lot of trouble. My dad refused to help me get it back together. My mom took me uptown and I paid a guy at a tackle shop $9.00 to put it back together. I think that incident scarred me for life! LOL Quote

LOL this incident right here is making me turn to a pro next time. i'm the same in terms of "handiness"... can change tires, brakes, serpentine belt, put 3 clutches in some older model trucks, but the tiny little million pieces that make up the insides of the reel are just terrifying to me... mike at DVT will be getting the reel next time anything is needed.... 1 Quote
