FLbass1999 Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 So I'm buying a new baitcaster soon and I'm stuck on what Rod Action and power I should get.I do allot of texas rig, carolina rig, weightless worm, swimbait, so basically allot of Soft Plastic/Finesse fishing. So what would be the best Rod action and Power?? akunk23 Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 You can't go wrong with a fast M/H. Even a medium. I wouldn't use a medium power though if you are throwing some big swim baits. T-rig etc would do you just fine. I got a St.croix mojo bass and a *** black couple months back and love them. they will only run you around $100. Can't beat it. 1 Quote
bbodkin Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 I use a 7 foot medium fast or 7 foot medium heavy fast rod. The medium for my worms, and the medium heavy for an all around texas rigs. 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 8, 2014 Super User Posted December 8, 2014 http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/130634-rod-selection-the-basics/ 7' MHF is probably a good fit. 1 Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted December 8, 2014 Super User Posted December 8, 2014 Depends on the brand, in my opinion. Some may be better off with a medium, others a MH might be the ticket. Any ideas on a manufacturer? 1 Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted December 8, 2014 Super User Posted December 8, 2014 Medium Heavy is what you want for fishing plastics. Medium heavy is pretty versatile all around, but I would say the lightest rod you think can handle it. Quote
ChrisWi Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 But that only goes so far, some rods run softer than others, if you are gonna get a duckett I'd bump it up to a heavy. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted December 8, 2014 Super User Posted December 8, 2014 I'd say MH/F too, maybe a medium if you throw mostly lighter stuff.... For the stuff you listed though I would think a MH would be great. Quote
Super User Raul Posted December 8, 2014 Super User Posted December 8, 2014 As usual, it depends a lot on where and what you will be fishing, a MH fast could be considered the " all around ", true to a certain point, it could be an all around until you find yourself fishing heavy woody cover or tough emergent veggie cover like pads or tule, there a MH doesn't look like an "all around" as it used to look. Choose the power depending upon where and what you fish and not depending upon what we ( without absolutely no idea ) think it would be "best" for you. Quote

Super User WIGuide Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 For those techniques, I'd probably go with a MH/F. Quote
illinifan4152 Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 A 7 ft MHF is a great all around rod for those techniques Quote
Solution FLbass1999 Posted December 9, 2014 Author Solution Posted December 9, 2014 For those techniques, I'd probably go with a MH/F. Okay cool. Thanks! That's what I've been leaning towards, Thanks for the help everyone! Quote
