Hey everyone, I was wondering which is better to use insert, or insert-free tungsten weights? I mainly fish fluorocarbons and co-poly lines and I am making the transition from lead to tungsten weights and I was wondering which was better and why? Thank u in advance

I have heard both sides really. Some get away without the insert while others do not. Aaron Martens did a video on how to make an insert yourself with shrink tubing and a lighter.  It is super easy and it works.  I myself have never had a problem without a insert, but I almost always have one in.  I usually put the insert in after buying them.

I have used both and never had an issue with either for the most part besides one time where I was using an insert free VMC that frayed my line. Not using those weights anymore. All the other insert free ones haven't given me issues.

Most all of mine have inserts that I have put in them. I use The technique mentioned above from Aaron Martens video to put them in. It really doesn't take that long after you do it a few times.

I've never had problems with insert free but I have with insert. I've had weights that I couldn't get the line through without messing with the insert.

I use only insert free because I want to have the option to add my own when and if I wanted.

I've never used one with the insert, and never had any problems.

I've had this very issue myself, while I still have both types, I only buy insert free now.

I've had issues with the inserts knicking my line so I use insert free now.

Used both, no issues with fraying the line, just wear on the knot with FC and braid. But that's with heavier weights (3/4 to 1oz).  Found a use for those yellow bobber stoppers though and started putting them between the weight and the hook for punching and problem solved.

I use insertless because I bought a ton of them on sale a while back. There must be a reason manufacturers put inserts in them though. Tungsten would be more abrasive IMO than a plastic insert unless the tungsten had the hole polished or the insert had a nick in it. I've used both kinds without a problem and usually put a red bead between the weight and hook for sound and color. Seems to work pretty good. For flippin', like said above, I use a bobber stop behind and in front of the weight. A trick learned from Big-O.

i have used insert free ones for years and still have not had any problems. i have read that the insertfree weights will damage your line. well it must take some time cuz i havent seen it yet. i do retie my line often no matter what im fishing so keeping a fresh line and knot is probably the reason i never have any problems
