I get nothing.   Or nearly nothing.  Except for Youtube.

 

I did see a national high school tournament on demand a couple months ago.  World Fishing Network only comes bundled with a 10 or 12 channel sports package.   Not willing to pay the extra ten bucks a month for it...and a bunch of soccer, badminton and cricket.

Good question.  I get most of my fishing TV fix from the internet.  The Elite and FLW websites both have tons of videos of past tournaments.  They also have a lot of tutorial videos.  On television, I really like Major League Fishing.  I recently signed up for the Extended View on their website.

 I enjoy Bill Dance even though he does fish at well stocked lakes/ponds.  Major League Fishing is probably the most enjoyable "tournament" program in my opinion, keeping in mind it's made for television so there is the possibility it is not a 100% true competition. This is not a bass fishing show but I think one of the classiest fishing programs on TV is Salt Water Experience.  So  many bass fishing programs seem too focus too much on one lure over others, pushing those lures down the viewers throat or they treat tournament fishermen like they are Elvis or something.

I don't have one, darn it. Angler west is always trout or salmon so I would rather watch a re-run of Cops. The other outdoor channel  seems to always be hunting ( I don't hunt).

WFN would be super cool.... BUT  fishing is enough in my life by living it. If I had it on TV 24 -7 I don't think the wife would dig it as much LOL!

I loved the old shows especially the Hank Parker show, Bill Dance, and Roland (before he went sponsor crazy and started pushing everything in the boat every few minutes}.

My all-time favorite of old was Jerry in "Fishing Hole" man.... many years ago. But I enjoyed his warm calm voice narrating while they fished. Because of he I never had to use drag again on a spinning reel I back reeled like he did. Drag was just for back up.

As someone mentioned, it may be contrived, and he may fish in well stocked reservoirs, but it's the nostalgia for me.

Me and my dad would wake up every Saturday and eat breakfast while watching bill dance before heading out to go fishing ourselves.

Some of the best days of my life I'll never forget.

On TV I only see FLW, Bill Dance, and occasionally Roland Martin and Jimmy Houston.  I can't really get into FLW much since it is too much like listening to sports announcers for more mainstream sports like football or soccer.  FIVE BASS LIMIT!!! Ugh...

 

I don't really care for Roland Martin much, and I rarely see Jimmy fishing.  Bill Dance though is on all the time.  I don't mind him too much personally but I cringe every time he catches a fish.  I feel like he lets them "dance" around on the end of the line too long.  It seems like he waits until the fish is completely exhausted and just falls over on its side.  Then once he gets it in the boat he holding it all wrong.  Have you noticed how often he puts his fingers inside the gills.  Then he slaps them a couple times before throwing them back in the water.  I know it is completely irrational but it kind of creeps me out.

 

Anyway, the rest of my fishing "TV" comes from the internet.  If it is still up you should watch the "reality" show FLW put out where they followed anglers on tour.  It was kind of neat to get that perspective.  Watching them get up in the morning and head to the tournament reminded me of the old Dunkin Donuts commercial.  It is time to make the donuts!  If you want to be a pro angler you should definitely watch it.  It helps you realize the reality of the situation and that is this is their job, and every tournament is a gamble just to stay ahead, let alone win.  I am not very competitive but even if I was tournament fishing at that level just isn't for me.

 

Anyway, bored at work on a Friday and I digress.

I recently found the Scott Martin challenge on his YouTube page. Full length episodes that are very entertaining. He challenges other anglers to a random competition each episode, and delivers tips.

There's a show in that probably 90% of you guys can't get where you live called John Gillespie's Waters and Woods.  He does 52 shows a year, new content every week. He films during the week, generally somewhere in Wisconsin and the show then airs on Saturday. The content is always fresh. He doesn't always show stuff I'm interested in, like now in the winter, the shows are about ice fishing. But as I posted recently, he did a show about brown trout fishing on Lake Michigan. I learned enough to go where he was fishing and got some big browns. A lot of guys get irritated by him because he goes a little nuts when somebody catches a big fish, but it's all in fun and he's a genuinely nice guy. If you are a multi-species angler, it will help you get more fish.

Good show! I really like the concept of a 'Dual Tournament Format' so to speak. There is a reason it's been on for over a decade. Great show!
