I'm looking for a place to bass fish in Columbus, GA. I usually fish at Heath Lake with my son and a few students I teach. Anyone have any suggestions? We don't have a boat so I'm limited. We only catch and release.

there is a fishing lake near there on the alabama side. It is a pay lake and has canoes you can rent. It had some good fish in it when I was stationed there in 2006. Can't remember the name or location though.

The ramp on lake oliver is not a bad place to fish in the summer either. its within city limits.

If you go downtown, cross the bridge on the Alabama side and you can fish the bank on the "river walk" you can get out on the rocks where the swift water is and catch stripers, hybrids and whatever else is hanging out, but when you hear the sirens going off it means they are about to let the water out so that's when you should start getting off the rocks. If you want something a little more relaxed check out cooper creek park its on warm springs road, its a park with a lake in the middle. I bank fish all over Columbus and Alabama and those 2 are a great start.

A few small bass around the dock side and along the grass line way in the back and several crappie. Seems to get overcrowded and too many turtles.

The bass do see some pressure there, but with plenty of shad they are well fed, another thing is the water is shallow, during the hottest days of summer you can see a lot of scattered brush sticking out of the middle of the lake.

I fish the river walk a lot by boat mostly. The catfish and striper bite is unreal during the summer. Bring an ultra light and toe up a double rig wit a bright colored crappy jig and enjoy constant action catching two skip jack at a time! Save a few for cut bait and catch some cats and stripers

Yes they do, I think it helps the overall population which im all about as long as its not served on my plate. I live just 5 minutes up the road from cooper creek so its a convenience spot however, I have done well there this year and its a confidence booster when you can catch in pressured waters.

I live in Phenix City, have my whole life. There is Lee County Lake where you can rent Jon Boats. It's been redone and restocked with Auburns f1 tiger bass, super aggressive and fast growers. I could tell you more Fishin hikes but that just wouldn't be smart.

I might have to go check it out and let loose one of those new roll tide elephant bass, but seriously is there an f1 tiger bass?

Back a few years ago lee county lake was predominantly catfish . Not sure how it is now since it was drained and restocked

Columbus and Phenix City have great white bass and hybrid fishing during January-March on the river. A great place to go fishing is Rotary Park. Summerland Outdoors has a lot of fishing rods and reels and they can provide you with some detailed knowledge of some spots to try.
