Super User buzzed bait Posted December 5, 2014 Super User Posted December 5, 2014 Looking for a new line for the spinnerbait/buzzbait/chatterbait setup. Would 12lb yo-zuri hybrid be a good option? Has a nearly 20lb breaking strength so was hoping to get away with the smaller line diameter. Currently using 17lb trilene XL with no problems, but would like to get the line diameter down a bit. Any experience/opinions appreciated. Thanks. Quote
5fishlimit Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Yes, it will work just fine. I've actually been using 10# (breaks at 16#) for the last 2 years and never had an issue. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 5, 2014 Super User Posted December 5, 2014 Any experience/opinions appreciated. I think I have been fishing/ recommending the line for a decade or so...I like #6 for spinning tackle, too! Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted December 5, 2014 Super User Posted December 5, 2014 I'm close to converting to Yo-Zuri 8-20 for just about everything but frogs in the pads. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted December 5, 2014 Super User Posted December 5, 2014 That's the exact line I have been using for a little while now for spinnerbaiting. I experimented with braid for a while, and now I am throwing Yozuri 12lb. Given the 2 options I will stay with the yozuri for spinnerbaiting. These have been my personal observations with the 2 lines. During the time that i threw spinnerbaits with braid, i caught plenty of fish however i noticed that I went through about 5-6 spinnerbaits of a particular brand within 6 months. My record was 2 SB in one day!! The SB's were literally breaking in half. So i decided to switch to Yozuri to see if the pattern would continue. It hasn't. i have lost 0 SB's of the same brand i used with the braid. Granted, after a nice fish on a SB you have to bend and tune the bait again, but with copoly line I have not had any SB's breaking. Utilizing both lines I have seen both pro's and con's but not losing baits, especially while fighting a beautiful fish has lead me to stick with Yozuri. Hope this info helps. 1 Quote
Super User deep Posted December 5, 2014 Super User Posted December 5, 2014 All I know is that if a line breaks at 20#, then it's a 20# test line, no matter what the label on the box says. Yo-Zuri is a good line, as long as you're sure of the diameter you're using. Take a look at the Pline PF original. I believe it is a better, but slightly pricier, alternative to the YZ hybrid. Better abrasion resistance and less stretch. It breaks close to the stated pound-test, so you might want to bump up a line size or two. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted December 6, 2014 Global Moderator Posted December 6, 2014 Ive been useing 12# Yo Zuri on my spinner/chatter outfit for the last 2 years now and have no complaints. I've been useing 15# Invizx on my crank outfit and even tho I like it I'm thinking about switching that one too. Mike Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted December 6, 2014 Super User Posted December 6, 2014 It's awesome line! It won't work on a Lews reel, just Shimano! Lol... ( I kid you ) I read your other post, Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 6, 2014 Super User Posted December 6, 2014 Great choice if your spinning reel and rod can handle 12 pound test. Don't forget to put braid on your spool first and then add the Yo-Zuri. Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 6, 2014 Super User Posted December 6, 2014 Oops! Misread the spinnerbait. Yes, great line for your baitcaster. Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 6, 2014 Super User Posted December 6, 2014 Yo-Zori hybrid is 12# is .013 diameter, average for 12 lb hybrids, not a small diameter line. Tom Quote
shootermcbob Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I use that exact line for spinnerbaits, swim jigs, small swimbaits. very good line, and very cost effective. I purchase two 600 yard spools from a vendor on an auction site for roughly 20 bucks. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 6, 2014 Super User Posted December 6, 2014 600 yard spools are currently on sale for $8.99. Quote
kikstand454 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I'm close to converting to Yo-Zuri 8-20 for just about everything but frogs in the pads. This is what I did. ..... ten years ago. Haven't looked back. 12# is great for spinnerbaits. Its on sale. Do it. Quote
Trey Harpel Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 solid line...12lb should be fine as the line Runs thick compared to other lines so it will break at 18lb or so... Quote
