Super User retiredbosn Posted December 8, 2014 Super User Posted December 8, 2014 Gas $2.309 here in Aiken SC, bread is $2.99 loaf for whole grain, crappy wonderbread is $2.99, store brands around 2.50 milk 4.05 gallon. Just got back from store. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 There are some things that buying cheap is not acceptable to me. I don't need the best, but I would rather fish with an Ugly Stik and Zebco 33 than buy $1.00 a loaf bread! If it comes down to eating well or high-end gear, healthy and high quality food wins every time. I might skip an occasional meal to avoid entry-level fishing gear though. On topic, gas is $2.40 here today. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 You should see how much mustard is. Can't afford mustard for my mustard sammie. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 Today's close was $63.11, down 4.15% from Friday. Energy dragged the stock market down yesterday, hope not a trend starting. My preference would be higher gas and higher equity markets. Too low gas prices make me nervous. Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 $2.63 in Mid Michigan yesterday, and a loaf of Aunt Millie's whole grain costs $2.39. We do have a small chain of gas stations that sell bread and milk as loss leaders, but I don't care for their brands. Francho - You could stretch that grocery budget with a bucket and a filet knife! Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 As I said, I'm not thrilled with the drop in oil. http://money.cnn.com/2014/12/09/investing/premarket-stocks-trading/index.html Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 Bread ain't healthy though Bread gets a bad rap because most of it is just empty carbs with little nutritive value. That's a big part of my disdain for cheap bread. Good whole, multigrain or sprouted grain breads are much healthier, and have better texture and taste. Of course you can't eat a pound at a setting...like I sometimes want to! Quote
Super User deep Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 Just bought bread at Kroger here in Cincy, $1.00 a loaf. This is their usual price. Brand name breads run $1.60- $2.39. I honestly thought you were joking. Hootie Same here in Central VA. Just tastes like bread to me....lol. I think I would gag on $4.00 -$7.00 bread. Would definitely have to sell my GLX's..lol. Hootie Bought a loaf yesterday for a buck, as I've doing for the last few years. Tasted just fine this morning. And I'm still alive. Eat Ramen for lunch and fish NRXs, that's my motto! 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 Plain white bread is only good for feeding the ducks. Blech. I have to have sticks and gravel in my bread! 1 Quote

My wife likes whole gain, too. I call it "Dirt Bread". My preference for sandwiches is old fashion Wonder Bread, the kind that sticks to your teeth! Otherwise, I am a fan of both rye and sourdough. Super User J Francho Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 Just saw gas for 2.99. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 Just filled up this morning for $2.55, then got about ten miles down the road and saw $2.48. Hootie Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 No sweat....my truck gets roughly 18-20 mpg, so, the half gallon to get ten miles down the road cost about $1.25 in gas to fill my 25 gallon tank. So I saved $1.75. That's a net difference of 50 cents - 50 cents closer to my expensive mustard sammich! 1 Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 Mustard sammich, are we talking just mustard and bread? Hootie Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 That's what us well to do folks are all eating. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 Ever hear the expression, "I can't even afford mustard for my mustard sandwich!" Means you have nothing but bread and water.... Quote
Crappiebasser Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 That's what us well to do folks are all eating. Mustard on Arnold bread makes you an aristocrat. Us poor folks put store brand mustard on store brand bread. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 Phht! Bourgeoisie Sammich! Quote

Super User J Francho Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 It's useful when someone accuses of you of making too much. "Hey, now I can afford mustard..." Someday I'll be able to afford a few slices of bologna. 1 Quote
