I don't think that is an end all problem solver, this country would still be dependent on oil. I'd rather see someone take a stance on using something else (Hydrogen or NG). Granted, I don't have the answers. However looking back, this run on cheaper fuel is going to cost us in the long run.

Hootie my wife sees a symbol of love and respect. I see a waste of money. On topic more or less, even economists can't agree whether the net cost of lower energy prices is a positive or not. Since we have little control over it, I guess we'll just enjoy the ride.

I guess I'm not seeing why domestic oil companies losing profits translates to a collapse of our stock prices. I feel bad for those that depend on that industry to put food on the table, but it's really just a small segment. What am I missing?

It's been a couple of good days for sure and I hope the trend continues.  With the daily wild swings we have been having, flashing an intraday index doesn't really mean much until 4:00 PM.  Quite true the US is pumping a lot of oil, many out there feel the quality isn't the best, we may be looking at costs to clean up the environment in the future.  The cheaper oil gets just may force companies out of business due to a lack of profitability, lost jobs.  Regardless of who controls the commodity price once supply is cut the price will rise.

 

The US would probably benefit more using the 42000 workers it takes to complete the Keystone pipeline to rebuild our infrastructure, than transporting Canadian oil, which would take a lot more time than just 2 years.

Yep, pipeline from Canada to the gulf and on to the world market... Sure helps Canada oil & gas company's . Still don't get why we can't get busy quick with building new bridges, new roads, better electrical grids, etc...

Not unless they have enough votes to over ride a presidential veto, that would be 2/3 of the house and senate, 290 & 67.  Doesn't look likely. 

Other than Canadian companies the largest  lease owner of oil sands in Canada is not Exxon or Chevron, it's the Koch brothers.  I can see why some of the new congress maybe in favor.

So who are the winners and losers in this fuel price free fall outside of the oil and oilfield related companys?  Solar is for sure going to take a hit as will wind energy.  I'd expect Ford, Dodge, and Chevy to do pretty well considering that trucks and SUV sales should benefit.  Transportation should do well on lower costs.  Who else?
