okbassguy Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I'm fishing a pond that has a little bit of everything stomps and logs grass and it has a 20 drop in it and it's cold right now so the fish have slowed down and I've been told fish will be deep but I don't know what to use because this pond is muddy you can only see a few inches down so I'm not sure what to use because dropshot doesn't seem like it would get seen and I was watching a video and KVD said if the water isn't clear jerkbaits aren't even an option so what do I do Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted December 4, 2014 Super User Posted December 4, 2014 Try a black and blue jig with a big trailer in a dark color. Drag it slowly around on the bottom, maybe you will get the attention of a good one. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 4, 2014 Global Moderator Posted December 4, 2014 Fish a single colorado bladed spinnerbait or bladed jig as slowly as you can reel and keep the blade moving. Probably help to put a bulky trailer on the back to help you be able to reel even slower, I like a pork frog for the added scent or put some Megastrike on a plastic trailer. A jig can be good too but a lot of ponds have too much junk on the bottom to fish them this time of year. Cold, muddy water is about as tough as it gets to get a fish to bite, good luck. 1 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted December 4, 2014 Super User Posted December 4, 2014 Live bait! 2 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 4, 2014 Global Moderator Posted December 4, 2014 Live bait! If the OP isn't against it, this would be my suggestion 100%. Minnow under a bobber around any cover in deeper water would be my pick. 1 Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted December 4, 2014 Super User Posted December 4, 2014 Live bait! Nothing better than the real thing 1 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted December 4, 2014 Super User Posted December 4, 2014 Or get some live craw fish and a spinning rod, throw one out there and let him run around on the bottom a little and jerk him out from hiding every now and again! Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted December 4, 2014 Super User Posted December 4, 2014 A good flat sided crank is also a good way to go. A flat sided rattle bait will emit a lot of sound, being able to alert the fish to where your lure is and the tight wiggle is good for lethargic bass. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 4, 2014 Super User Posted December 4, 2014 Cold chocolate milk is a challenge. I would be looking for somewhere else to fish. 1 Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted December 4, 2014 Super User Posted December 4, 2014 I'm running into a similar difficulty with "my" ponds. One of my ponds is very shallow, and the fish have just absolutely shut off. I've tried everything, a jerkbait, spinnerbait, inline spinner, jig, ect. ect. and only caught one dink. On my other pond, my brother and I managed to catch 5 nice bass in two hours. All my luck so far (in both ponds) has been on jigs. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted December 4, 2014 Super User Posted December 4, 2014 DD22 might work in that deeper water. Quote
Rippinlips14 Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I would throw a spinner bait with two willow leaf blades in gold its so muddy that your just looking for a reaction so that would be your best bet. You can also throw a topwater bait around the stomps i would use a popper bait or walker bait probably something slower like a popper bait and you can also flip to the grass i would use a havoc pitboss in black and blue with 3/0 offset round bend hook with a 3/8 oz tungsten weight. Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 5, 2014 Super User Posted December 5, 2014 If I was jonesing for bass real bad I'd be using a senko, easy to fish, produces well and no real wrong way to fish it. Quote
