Why Dosen't Bass Pro Carry New Companies

Like the head says, why can't BPS carry new companies? I mean I have seen more Duckett Rods lately but why don't they carry 13 gear or Denali rods Kistler, Dobyns, Pinnacle thats just a few I can think off the top of my heads. I want a *** rod however I dont have a Gander Mountain near me and I dont trust shipping rods. I have had a few broken by the time I get them.

Bass Pro is too reliant on their BPS brand to bring in competition.

I imagine Bass Pro negotiates with 

companies like Walmart does. Tough.

But BPS does have great deals at times!!

I love their Carbonlite rods and Stik-O 

senko knock-offs. Hard to beat when on

I have basically given up on BPS. Everything is over priced, and they are slow to restock instore. Not just my Bass Pro. And they are starting to look like a department store. It's making me upset when I see bass tourneys sponsored by BPS now :/

Don't worry about buying rods online.  Online retailers ship rods every day without issue.  I worry more about rods being handled poorly in box stores, either by staff stocking shelves or customers.  Besides, if one did happen to get broken during shipping, you would get a replacement.

I have no problem buying rods from TW, their tubes and the way they ship them are great.  Not an issue with anything from them.  And if you get a defective lure, or rod and call them they will ship you a new one without any issues and have a pre paid shipping label in the new box or tube for the defective item.

Probably because they've estimated that their profit margin if they carried them would be too low.

Lews owner, Lynn Reeves used to work for Johnny Morris. They had sort of falling out and parted company. Therefore, Morris refuses to carry Lews reels.

There's a limited amount of floor space in any given retail environment and that space needs to be maximized to turn inventory and make the store profitable. If your certain favorite brand isn't stocked it's most likely that they haven't made their case with the retailer. Manufacturing capacity, transportation, brand awareness and of course margins are a few of the factors that may affect whether or not certain manufacturers and retailers can do business.

The bottom line is, it's an outdoors/sporting goods chain, not unlike many others. Their bass tackle inventory, at their 'Outdoor World' locations, is certainly better than most brick and mortar stores around, but they still have to be discriminate about what they stock.

I'd love for their to be a store near here where I could handle every quality bass rod and reel on the market, but it's not that simple. I do know a place that carries Dobyns, and another that carries St. Croix, and another Loomis, and so on. It's just a lot of shopping around.

I feel like this is what I am experiencing as well, I live in an area were bass is not a prime target. I live in Walleye country on Lake Erie and the Maumee River. The only place to get bass fishing gear is BPS or Walmart and even those stores carry more to walleye than bass. I did go ahead a buy the rods I want from TW and I have had no problem with rods I bought from Ron at DVT. Academy, and BPS  almost always send me rods with bent guides or broken tips.

One visit to bps was enough for me, its more like a novelty shop. Grab the family or your friends, walk around and checkout everything out. When i want to buy tackle its going to be TW or jdm online retailers...

Don't forget to add the vast number of 'house' brands BPS has, which eliminates distributors and their 'cut', making BPS' house lines more profitable.  I can't speak for other BPS stores, but my local store allocates the lion's share of their retail space to their own brands, especially in the fishing department.  Like any other company, BPS is out to make money, and that's one way to make more.

Yeah, All the Bass Pros I have been to are like that. At least they have some quality goods.  There are too many companies out there to put in one store, unfortunately.  Oh well, sometimes you gotta take a chance on fellow anglers perspectives and trust their reviews and opinions. Thats why Bassresource is so nice, we have so many good people to get reviews from.

I would start shopping at Tackle Warehouse. They are second to none in my opinion.

I use to shop BPS for most of my tackle needs but as years have gone by they seem to carry more and more junk.  Years ago, you could go in and find every rod from a particular maker.  Now, it's sparce and a lot more of BPS house brands.  The thing I miss the most though, are the old time fisherman that use to work there.  They seem to have moved these guys out and replaced them with uneducated kids.  BPS use to have that special something that kept me coming back and now it makes my local small tackle shop look that much better.
