Hey guys,

I've not been able to fish much lately but when I have, I've found myself enjoying fishing with a spinning rig.  Maybe it's that I'm only getting away for quick trips to some ponds where I'm not finding big fish, but the spinning has been fun lately.

With that said, I'm considering adding a spinning rod to the arsenal.  Looking for it to be 6'8" - 6'9" and to be pretty versatile.  Weightless flukes/trick works/senkos, light t-rigs/shakey heads 3/16 oz or less, shallow running/topwater hard baits 3/8 oz and less, etc.  Basically, a "pond rod" in the ~$200 range to be matched with a 2500 size spinning reel and ~10 lb braid.

Any suggestions?

A lot of good options with that budget. Dobyns champion 682 is great for everything your fishing. Kistler KLX, St Croix avid, save a little bit and Fenwick smallmouth is great, daiwa tatula is also nice...

Chris take a hard look at St Croix Avid X for $200 and or Kistler Helium 3 Series at $249.99. Both on sale at 20% off until the 5th at TW.

With 20# braid, and various leaders, this has been my most versatile spinner.  Take it to ponds quite a bit, though I'm not sure why it matters.  I'd use it anywhere there are bass.

Hehe...as I was writing this, the options that jumped into my head were KLX, St Croix and Dobyns :)

The Dobyns I figured would work was the 683. Does the 682 have enough power for a full-size fluke or 5-inch Senko? I'd use light wire hooks but don't want to overload the rod on what will likely be the primary technique

Isn't the St. Croix 68mxf a bit more powerful than its rating, like most other Croix offerings?

The most intriguing KLX options also appear to be the ones out of stock.

And lastly, I'm hoping to find a rod sufficiently different enough from the Avid 69mlxf, KLX 6'6" ml mod-fast and Dobyns Extreme 703sf I already have to justify the purchase. Hehe....

No experience with the *** rods, but seems like everyone that posts about them like them a lot.  TW still has 20% off so it would be below your limit.

The 7' M-MF Aetos looks like a great all-around rod.  Too bad I don't use the spinning rods I have often enough to justify owning them.  :sad78:

St.croix of what ever level you want 7'0mlf. Enough back bone to set the hook on senkos and flukes and enough tip to make playing the fish fun. Also excels at topwaters up to 1/2. Dropshot, jerkbaits and many other techniques.

I fish my ponds nearly everyday, they do not have much vegetation.  The bass aren't too big 18-24" and no real cover to worry about fishing with light power 6'6 spinning rod, the fish are pretty easy to land.  I have been using a 5' ul rod and reel, the rod has the backbone of an over boiled spaghetti noodle, that's what I like about it.  Using only top water it's all about the strike and the fight for me.

you can probably still find some powell endurances on sale for about $130-$170.i have the 6'10" med.spinning rod& a 7'1" heavy casting rod& i love 'em.my only complaint is the handle on the spinning rod is awfully short.like 12 or 13 inches from butt to the last thread on the reel seat. another rod to look at would be a falcon lowrider 20 made in the usa& the fit&finish on those rods look awesome.and like others have said can't forget about the st.croix avid.
