Well If its to big just trim the trailer. But if your going 40 feet down I would look at a bigger jig. If I rember right a 1/2oz weight will fall a foot a second. So it going to take you a long time to get down that far. It also might not even get that deep.

That pork frog is the perfect trailer for your 1/4 oz Strike King jig. If the jig bite is on you'll get em. I would start in shallower water and work toward the deeper water slowly. JMHO

that trailer will be fine but you almost certainly have other options that you already have in your tackle box as well.  any craw, grub, and most creature baits will work well.  a favorite of mine is cut down brush hog.

that jig will be great for 10 ft of water but if your gonna go deeper id get a half ounce jig.  if your going all the way to 40 ft i would get a 3/4 or full ounce jig.  your just gonna be wastin a lot of time waiting for the bait to get down there in 40 ft of water in essentially dead water.

also if you are jsut learning jigs you might stay away from fishing them super deep.  id concentrate on the shallow stuff where you will have a little easier time.  that 1/4 jig is perfect for that and the smaller size will get you more overall bites.

Your #11 pork frog probably is the all time best producing trailer for a jig.  The only problem is keeping them wet when more than one rod is rigged.

I have a general rule of thumb for jigs: 10-20 fow 1/4 oz jig, 15-25 fow 3/8 oz jig, 20-30 fow 1/2 oz jig, deeper than 30 a 3/4 oz.

I have become quite partial to the Netbait Paca Chunk lately.  The 'claws' swim quite nicely.

I use a variety of trailers but most of the time it will be the 4" and 5" Yamamoto twin tail grub. I use a single tail 5" Yamamoto grub for Swim jigs.

The GYCB Twin Tail Grub works well as a trailer with spinnerbaits, too! I have been using them on some jigs recently, but my preference is still the GYCB Fat Baby Craw.
