SDbassin Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Hey all, does anyone fish Diamond Valley Lake or lakes in the San Diego are like Lake Hodges or Lake Henshaw? I fished Diamond Valley a lot this summer, and caught pretty much all my fish on dropshots and weightless senko's, Lake hodges towards the end of summer was a good crankbait bite for me and have only fished henshaw once over the summer but I go to college out in Tucson, Arizona and haven't been back to those lakes since late august. I will be fishing these lakes alot during the winter once my winter break starts, and was wondering what has been working in these lakes over the past few months, and what do you guys think the conditions will be like in the middle of December going into early January. Ive never fished during the "winter" out in San Diego as I just recently got heavily addicted to bass fishing , and my family just moved to north san diego county. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 I haven't fished SD county for awhile. I will as soon as San Vincente reopens...book mark that date! DVL bass go deep in the winter and drop shot and structure spoons works good. The trout plants start up now in all the area lakes that allow them, think swimbaits. The smaller county lakes like Poway, Wolford, Dixon can be good in the winter. The lakes are still very low pool, rain may change that some this Dec. Good luck. Check out Western Outdoor News for local lake reports, about 2.weeks behind current activity, should help however. Tom Quote

Tom I was at Dixon today, with the stock going on right when I got there with Nebraska tail walker. Threw a trout swimbait and a finesse jig for just about 12 hours today, not one bite and didn't see any fish from the bank at all, I think there were deep or maybe last week's rain got the bass confused, im not sure haha. Im one of those people that can be on the water for 15 hours, not catch anything and still have a blast. but man it felt good to get on the water again after not fishing for 4 months Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 23, 2014 Super User Posted December 23, 2014 Tail Walkers are big trout and range between 2-10 lbs, not bass prey! You should have tried to catch the Tail Walkers! Tom Quote

You should have tried to catch the Tail Walkers I figured that out after fishing all day, never heard of tail walkers until today! The rangers said the trout usually pick up a few days after the stock so I need to remember to bring my spinning rods next time I go in a few days. it was just weird, because nobody was really catching the tail walkers either, couple guys caught some crappie and bluegill but that was it. no one reported any bass and it seemed like there was just no life in the lake, no movement, and most of the grass was dead Quote

SDbassin Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 In the future you might check sdfish.com for SoCal fishing info. I found that site out a few days after I posted this, I've found some great info about our local lakes on that site since I moved down here. Quote
