FunkJishing Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 after christmas I'm going to invest in a higher end set up than the ones I have. I'm thinking of getting a duckett ghost and one of these two reels. what baitcaster do you reccomend and why? http://www.ebay.com/itm/131292781788#ht_1775wt_907 http://www.ebay.com/itm/PFLUEGER-SUMMIT-BAITCASTER-RIGHT-HANDED-FISHING-REEL-6-4-1-BRAND-NEW-/251624093543?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a95f6f767#ht_243wt_907 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Mechanically they are identical, both Pure Fishing products, from the same factory. Feature wise they look close but look at the manufacturer websites. 1 Quote

FunkJishing Posted December 2, 2014 Author Posted December 2, 2014 im leening twards the summit for these reasons. 1. it's a 150$ reel for 90$ 2. it's discontinued so not many others will have it. 3. i have many other pfluger reels and trust their products. 4. 10 BB's Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 A simple google search on either will have links, but I don't have any argument with your logic above. 1 Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted December 2, 2014 Super User Posted December 2, 2014 I would choose the Pflueger for two reasons. 1)I have a trust in Pflueger and have heard better things about they're reels compared to Gen 3 Revos 2) I'm not a fan of the paddles on the lower end Abu reels. I prefer the EVA foam. That is my personal preference, yours may vary 1 Quote

Super User smalljaw67 Posted December 2, 2014 Super User Posted December 2, 2014 The Summit you are looking at is what replaced the Supreme I have, it was a $200 reel and then discontinued. The Summit you are looking at is a good reel, the problem is you won't be able to get a gear set or other parts if it fails and no warranty either since this is clearly old stock that was purchased by one of the ebay stores. If it was discontinued and being sold at say TW where there is a warranty I'd be all over it but not like this, and because of this you get that kind of price. If that reel came down to say $70 then I'd seriously think about it, if it was $65 I'd consider it strongly, and if it was $50 I'd be on it like a cheap suit!!!! IMHO it is too much just because it is a 2006 reel, and it may be NIB but it is still between 7 and 9 years old, that price needs to be lower. 1 Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Saving money is always good and there is a certain amount of inherent risk in buying anything from clearing houses. If this were a 2006 Curado I wouldn't be surprised if someone here offered retail for it. lol I don't think the price here is way out of line but it's not the deal of the century either. Especially now with all the holiday sales etc. I just had a Tatula in the shop that had line on it so i mounted it up for test casting and was pretty impressed. 1 Quote
Kidflex Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 The summit is hands down a better reel than the revo s. I have 3 of the summits. These were a special run for cabelas painted black and with large Eva knobs(according to a cabelas rep). It has recently been taken out of the lineup and can be found in the cabelas bargain cave periodically. They had them down to $49. Every once in a while they'll pop back up for a couple days then disappear. Believe it or not it is one of my best casting reels comparing them to my daiwa t3, zillion, tatulas, shimano chronarch, pfueger patriarch, exo's and mgx's. Very solid reel Quote
greentrout Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 I own the Pflueger Supreme & Trion baitcasters and they have performed well. Recently, I bought the Summit from Cabela's marked down from 149.99 to 49.99 with no shipping charge. Went out yesterday to one of my of favorite spots to walk the bank in 65-72 degrees weather and caught two nice ones on Cajun Red Line Casting 12 lb., It's a Humdinger in White & Chartreuse , Gold Indiana blades 1/4 oz. using the Summit. It is one sweet smooth reel. Old school basser... Quote
FunkJishing Posted December 7, 2014 Author Posted December 7, 2014 I put some thought in and have decided to get a Revo sx instead. thanks for the info though guys. Quote
Jon G Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 if you are looking at a revo get a gen 2 imo those were the best revos ever made Quote
