Hey ya all

I've talked about making plastics, Looked into it a little.

I'm always trying something to intrest my son. was wondering about those that have history with this, any comments about it being fit for a father's 9yr old son doing it too? of course supervised-we don't wanna burn ourselves

Manily concerned about the respatory thing first? Don't want to hurt my son's lungs.

so how nasty is it to do :-?

It is nasty and you are kidding yourself if you think you won't get burned.

That's kind of harsh, driving a car is nasty and you'll kill yourself.

It's like anything else, just take some precaution and you'll be fine.

First, plastic is heated to roughly 300*, you'll need an open area with plenty of ventilation, an exhaust fan if you're inside, and wear the proper safety gear, which includes:

Long pants, long sleeves, gloves, a respirator of some sort, any used for painting will work.

Since the plastic is so hot, taking your time, and practicing safety first, and you'll never get burned. The morons that get in a hurry and spill it on themselves will, however, get burned (me included, until I took my own advice!!)

As far as the family thing, it's a great thing to do, you guys can first make your baits, then go out and catch fish on them. Can't think of a better thing to do ;) Heck, if you get into making your own molds, you can even design your own baits to fish with.

Not sure how much research you've done into the plastic/material needed, I think Senkosam has a tutorial on this site somewhere to get you started. Good luck, and above all, have fun!

Thanks dampeoples

It all started out at work where I teased and said "it would be nice to make a rubber fishing worm out of the same stuff that Gummy bears are made from"

That way you could snack and fish ;D

Well seriously I have been reading some and will check out senkosam

Thanks again ;D
