Im in the market for a crankbait rod.  Im on the fence between two that my local guy has.   abu veritas winch and st croix mojo.

abu the handle feels kinda weird and it only comes in medium.  I havent had a reel on one that might change things.

st croix feels good allot more money and im not sure whether to get medium or medium heavy.

I mostly fish squarebills andfish no deeper than 12 feet.  not sure i need m or mh

What size square bill and how big are the bass in your area.  The medium should be good if your pulling 1.5 size baits on 5lb or less bass.  If you are tossing 2.5's and larger a medium-heavy would be better.  How big are the fish in your area???

What length and action are these rods? What lures do you plan on throwing? What cover do you plan on fishing around?

M should be fine as you are not doing any deep cranking.  I throw the baits you mentioned fine on a M St. Croix Premier Cranking rod.  Make sure the action is Moderate though.

Thanks everyone.I throw 2.5 around weeds.  5 pounds would be a big bass in my area,

I was looking at 7 foot m and mh.  abu only come in m though

If you throw the 2.5 the most you might wanna get the MH, I throw my 2.5 sized squarebills on a MH/F action and do fine, I throw my 1.5 sized ones on a M/F, But you could throw a 1.5 on a MH or a 2.5 on a M though... So it comes down to what size cranks your using the most...

What action are these rods? I prefer a fast action for squarebills but some people prefer a moderate action...

Welcome to the forums BTW!

Now is the time of year to move on a rod as there are tons of sales.  If you spend over 50 tackle warehouse ships for free and has 20% off right now.  If you said how much you had to spend and a little about what you prefer in a rod we could point you in the right direction.

I am in canada so tackle warehouse is out as shipping on a rod is crazy.  I have a gift card for sail a shop here and there have 20 off right now.  The two rods i mentioned earlier are in stock there.  More than anything was wondering is i should go with m or mh.

A MH is what you want for square bills because of banging it in cover plus you have a little more backbone for moving fish away from cover. Larger square bills I find too big for medium power cranking rods, but it comes down to what your preference is because the best rod isn't any good if you don't like the feel of it.
