Xf Tip For Jigs?

I just purchased 2 rods at gander mountain on sale, they are both MH XF. One is last years crucial 7'2" MH xf marked as a spinnerbait technique and the other is the St. Croix rage 7'1" MH xf. I figure ill use the st. croix as my all around t-rig and soft plastics rod being that the tip is a bit softer and ill use the crucial for jigs sense its a stiffer rod with the IM-10 blank. I will be throwing 3/8 oz jigs with braid and a fluoro leader. What do you guys think given the situation? Will I run into any trouble with that XF tip?

I would try using straight fluoro, because I don't like braid with an XF tip

I think you will be fine with the braid and fluoro leader so long as the leader is 4-5 feet which should be more than enough line to help reduce the shock from the braid and tearing the hook out.

Most of my jig fish have been caught on M/F rods, not XF.

 

That said, I think an XF can work with the right line(s).

I use either floro or mono with a MH/XF, but i can and do use braid with M/XF as it doesn't have quite the backbone the MH does.

I used that exact Rage rod for smaller jigs and really liked it. Have since upgraded to the similar LTB that I continue to use for small jigs and really like it.

I have a 7'2" MH-XF rod that I use to pitch jigs with, it is awesome but I'm not using braid, if I was using braid I'd have a fast or mod-fast as there isn't enogh give with an extra fast rod, you need some shock absorbsion and the fluorocarbon leader isn't going to provide enough. Go all fluorocarbon or copoly and you got a great jig rod.

The older black Cumara 7'2" MH-XF was praised by many as a great jig rod. So an XF tip should be fine.  I'd pay attention to what smalljaw and others pointed out about line.

not to sound like a broken record... but i use a 7'2" MH XF Crucial as my designated jig rod and it is awesome. The only difference is that i use straight flouro... Like others have said, i would be hesitant in using braid with this rod. Just use straight flouro and it will be money for you.

You can, and should modify your hookset when using braid. I don't see the need for "give" in the context of this discussion. An action labeled as X-Fast shouldn't be any problem. As usual it will come down to your personal preference.

Action merely describes how much of the rod bends under light pressure, and how quickly you get into the rod's power section.  Medium to medium heavy rods, I like a fast to x-fast action.  As cover dictates, and I step into heavy and extra heavy  powers, I prefer a moderate fast action.  These are rods where detecting the bite has more to do with sensitivity of the blank than tip flex.  In heavy cover, I want the hookset and weight of the fish distributed across the entire blank.  In less than slop, using M to MH gear, I want to be able to quickly flick set the rod, and a faster taper drives the hook point home.  Hard to describe in words, but can be felt with time on the water using different tools.

All the talk about pulling hooks with braid.....If you set the drag right you won't pull the hook nor snap the rod.  And have to remember when using straight braid you don't need to swing for the fences. A quick pop and done.  If I swing too hard on my set-ups the drag slips as it should giving you the shock relief from the near zero stretch.  You shoud be fine. Do your thing and fish your style.

I have 2 crucials both are 6' 10" MH Xfast, one is older with the full cork handle, & the is the newer split grip with an EVA handle.

The full cork hanle is my T-rig rod & the other is my jig rod.

Both setups are for moderate cover & have 15# Berkley Big Game. I don't go Fluro or Braid until I get into heavy cover.

Ok, thanks guys I ran into a fellow fisherman at Dicks today while browsing for fluoro and he recommended seagar invis-x 12 lb and they were sold out, I have decided to go straight fluoro based on the guidance you all have provided.
