JeziHogg Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Any suggestoins for a hook size for (EWG and Straight Shank) 3" and 4" Pit boss/Beaver Style baits and for 6-7" worms (Off set worm). Going to work on getting better with T-Rigs next year. Quote
Solution ABW Posted December 1, 2014 Solution Posted December 1, 2014 For Pit Bosses I only use EWG. 3" get 3/0 4" get 4/0 7" worms 2/0 or 3/0 offset. 2 Quote
JeziHogg Posted December 1, 2014 Author Posted December 1, 2014 Awesome, thats what I was leaning too. I hardly ever throw T-Rigs, I want to get better with the T-Rig next year. Quote
ABW Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Just another tip, with Texas rigs I will go with the lowest possible bullet weight I can get away with. Quote
BasshunterJGH Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 For Pit Bosses I only use EWG. 3" get 3/0 4" get 4/0 7" worms 2/0 or 3/0 offset. X2. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted December 1, 2014 Super User Posted December 1, 2014 For Pit Bosses I only use EWG. 3" get 3/0 4" get 4/0 7" worms 2/0 or 3/0 offset. Same here if we are talking worms like the Zoom Trick Worm or Culprit ribbon tail. Quote
BasshunterJGH Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 7" worms 2/0 or 3/0 offset. 3/0 for a ribbon tail, curly tail, or 7 inch roboworm; 6/0 for a 7 inch senko though. Quote
JeziHogg Posted December 1, 2014 Author Posted December 1, 2014 Ya, 6" T-Macs mostly for my worms. Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 4/o ewg for everything over 4" and under 8" And for worms you dont need any bullet weight at all. Go weightless Quote
ABW Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 4/o ewg for everything over 4" and under 8" And for worms you dont need any bullet weight at all. Go weightless I don't like using EWG for thin plastics, I feel that the hook gets in the way sometimes and takes away from the action. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted December 1, 2014 Super User Posted December 1, 2014 I like how some of you are saying I use a X/0 for so and so inch bait.... It really only matters how thick the bait is. Quote

Go weightless You most definitely can need a bullet weight in most cases! Try fishing a weightless trick worm for bass holding on cover 20ft deep! Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 I don't like using EWG for thin plastics, I feel that the hook gets in the way sometimes and takes away from the action. I never find that. What hooks do you use? Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 You most definitely can need a bullet weight in most cases! Try fishing a weightless trick worm for bass holding on cover 20ft deep! Weightless action is top notch though. Bullet weight changes it Quote
ABW Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 It's just a preference of mine. Since there really isn't much plastic to go through, the EWG isn't really needed. Quote

Same here, I also fish tons of grass and EWG don't come through nearly as good as normal worm hooks or straight shanks. Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 I find it to have better hook ups for me, i guess its just what i am used to. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 1, 2014 Global Moderator Posted December 1, 2014 I use a 4/0 EWG for the 4" Pit Boss. For the Pit Boss Jr I use these guys, 1/8oz or 3/16oz head with a 2/0 Owner wide gap short shank Rig N' hook. The hinged head action every time I twitch the bait makes one of the best, jerky swimming crawfish movements I've ever seen in a bait. It was a killer rig for me this year when the going got tough. Super User Catt Posted December 1, 2014 Super User Posted December 1, 2014 Ya never ever select hook size based on length! Ya always select hook size based on thickness! 7" worms but how thick? Ya talking a Trick Worm size or Senko size? Quote
