I was watching a couple of Youtube videos that were filmed in Japan and I saw a technique that I have never seen before in my life.  The technique is called Spy-Baiting.  I'm not too sure what it is besides that the objective is to make a jerk-bait look like a wounded and weak bait fish that has separated from the school.  I was curious if any of you fellow anglers actually know what Spy-Baiting is and if you can provided me with more information on it.  It would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Here is the link to the video if anyone is interested.

Small sinking prop bait fished on light fluorocarbon in clear water. Very effective on pressured fish.

Looks very interesting. Only have one prop-bait,

a topwater, but haven't caught anything on it.

So close to pulling the trigger on grabbing one on Black Friday but backed out.  Regretting...

They work, but it certainly is a very finese fight once you get a big one on.  LONG cast...  count down 20 ft...  fish hits 3 cranks in...  curse at yourself for the next 5 minutes as you try to reel in 5lb+ smallie with 6lb Flouro on a ML spinning rod with a 1000 sized reel...

Yep, they work.

Webertime, you're overpowered with that set up!  :smile7:

As has been mentioned, the key is to use really light tackle in order for the bait to work properly. I actually like to use 4# Invizx and if you have your drag set right you should still be able to land any pigs you're fortunate enough to have on the end of your line.

If you like to power fish, fish dirty water, or only use baitcasters then spybaiting probably is not worth your time. If you like finesse fishing with really light tackle you may be in for a real treat...

Agreed on the light line, ML rod, and clear water being keys to this presentation. It is nothing like fishing a jerkbait though OP, much more like swimming a grub or small paddletail grub but with a very different action. They sink like a rock first off, then on the retrieve they have a very subtle roll and the blades spin so fast it's hard to tell they're even doing anything at first. I haven't played with them a ton but I have had success with them the little bit I have fished them.

Anybody throwing the half ounce version? What gear are you using? Is the action the same as it's smaller brother?

Yep, a very light setup is definitely an advantage. I use an UL powered trout rod with 3lb P-Line floroclear.
