Hey guys. I was looking around for some hook sizing info and there seems to be a lot of different information and variation among different manufacturers. I was thinking that maybe we can start a stickied thread with a list of the actual measurements of the hooks along with a list of different hardbaits and which size trebels they use. I'm sure like myself, people have difficulties buying hooks online without actually being able to see the size of them.  Also the 1 vs 1/0 is also confusing. Obviously this could end up containing a rediculous amount of information so maybe we could just limit it to the more common manufacturers and lures used by most on the board. Unfortunatly, I do not have any packaged hooks to measure right now but will be getting some soon. Anyway, does this seem like something that could come in handy here?

1 vs 1/0 is just the progression of hook sizes.

The 1/0 is bigger than the 1. Then it goes 2/0

3/0 ect ect

And if I made a 28/0 tomorrow it'd be the biggest size?? Heck what if I want to fish with a butchers hook? I don't think there is a "biggest hook"

Of course there is a biggest hook, just the same as there is a smallest hook.  If and tomorrow do not negate what  "is" today.  You can fish with a butchers hook or a ceiling fan, it does not change what the biggest fishing hook is.

Establishing a Standard of hook is problematic because there is no standard hook size with in the industry.

For instance a 5/0 Owner Wide Gap Plus EWG hook when compared side by side to an Eagle Trokar EWG Mag Worm is decidedly different, yet both "5/0".

This somewhat drastic variation is also seen between brands when is comes to the thickness or gauge of wire used for each size.
