I'm young and ever since I was a little kid I've wanted to be a police officer, I'm interested how many of y'all have the job you always wanted as a kid? Or maybe your still working towards your goal career? Maybe you changed your mind when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a professional fisherman or a guide, but both of those are long shots. My more reasonable goals were firefighter or LEO, so I guess so.

In practical terms yes, I've always loved animals and after being lost studying Economics I dropped out and changed to Veterinary Medicine.

Sorta, always wanted to be in the military specifically a fighter pilot(grew up watching top gun...) or some sort of special forces. I'm neither of them but still in the military as an infantryman till atleast February 2015 then I'm either getting out after 7 years or going over to the aviation side fixing choppers.

Well I wanted to work on a sportfishing boat after I first started fishing on them.  Decided to give it shot, quit doing it for a few years and went back to it since the normal 9-5 wasn't for me.  Worked up to running the boat, but the bad news, the fishing regulations make it really hard to make a carrer out of it unless you own the boat.  So once I was married and  a child my career shifted more toward the comercial marine industry.  So working in the Gulf of Mexico running boats in the offshore oil industry isn't a bad way to make a living if you can take the time away from home.  But on the bright side, I get a two week vactation every 28 days and make a pretty good living at the same time. So although not fishing for a living anymore, still on the water with a consistant paycheck.  But still miss the challenges of findng and putting customers on fish everyday and don't mind doing it from time to time but as a career I'll keep the job I have now.

Hopefully everything works out for you, and you get some good news soon.

Growing up I loved the water and needed to be challenged.

A career in the USCG satisfied both.

And you know I fished hard everywhere I was assigned

I'm not even remotely close to what I originally thought I would be doing. To be fair though, I had no idea that the position I am in now (or the entire career field for that matter) even existed when I was younger.

Wanted to be a pro baseball player, didn't work out. A friend was a union glazier and got me in 27 years ago. Only a few more to go before retirement, can't wait so I can do more fishing.

Same goes for me, wanted to be a forensic scientist (even before all those shows came out) ended up as an apprentice plumber a few years outta high school, company went under and a week later I was in aviation school, got my A&P mechanic license and now work as a supervisor in the maintenance planning department for a regional airline. I always loved being a home mechanic but had no interest in working on vehicles of any kind for a living, never thought about aircraft until I heard about one of my buddies attending the school.

I always wanted to be in the military. Joined the coast guard because I liked their peace time missions. Loved it, well not always, but the experience gained there opened many doors for me in the civilian world. I have lived a blessed life primarily doing what I wanted when I wanted. Don't chase money, do what u love, miserable job equals miserable life.

Wanted to be a marine sniper. Figured I was too big to hide well. So that ended.

Other than that and pro football (which ain't happen). I really had no idea or plans on what I would do. Figured I would just see where life took me. I'm happy with how it all worked out.

Spent 45 years welding. Thirty two of those years building fire trucks. When I was young, I always said I wanted to be a doctor or a welder. Knew I would make the wrong choice.

I wanted to be an engineer, became an engineer. Not the field I was intending to go into, though. It's still early in my career, though, so I may still transition.

I certainly never intended to become a teacher. Sometimes you have to let the game come to you.

Wanted to be a Vet

Went to law school

Hated being an attorney

Now I am a consultant

No kids or wife so I am still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up

Fortunately, I choose to go with what I was good at.

Rather than what I wanted to be good at.

If I did that I'd be an eater or a sleeper...

I always wanted to be rich so I wouldn't have to work.  I don't see either one of those things happening in the near future.

Loved cars as a kid I've been working as a collision technician at a body shop for the last 10 years.

Can't say as a kid I had any clue what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. At 45 it has come full circle.
